13 year old issues...

my 13 year old will be 2 month away from being 14 when we sail... she has already said she doesn't think she will like the tween area... She is the youngest in her grade at school... so she is used to being the little one...funny thing is everyone thinks she is older.... size 11 shoe, 5 8 ...etc...
what are the chances they let her bump up to the teen club?

It is totally up to the CM in charge. However...different families have different values. What goes on in the teen area at night is somewhat dependent on the group, but basically as long as the kids are wearing clothes that are appropriately in place, the CM did not intervene on some of the cruise we've been on, regardless of what the kids may have been doing (this is per my now DD who opted to leave the area due to some of the activity). Be careful.

Of course, my DD continued to leave at 17 if things got beyond what she considered appropriate. My kid is no prude, but......

My son went to the Teens are when he was 13. They told him to try the Tween are and if he did not like it he could go up. At dinner the first night a 16 year old at our table asked him to escort her the first night. That was all it took, he spent the rest of the cruise with the teens. Now remember that she will be with kids 14 to just under 18 years old. I would suggest you just have a talk with your daughter and keep track of what friends she makes.

And the last thing... this is Disney Kids on a Disney ship

How close to 14 was your son?

From my experience it will not happen. Twice now, we have been weeks away from getting into the next higher age group club, and they will not allow our daughter in. She too looks much older, mainly because of her height, but we were told that they are too full, so maybe on your cruise they will have fewer kids in each group.

My son went to the Vibe the July before he turned 14 in September -- granted he was over 6' and looked 17 already. He had a great time with the teenagers!

We leave Thursday and my DS13 will be with his best friend who is 14 (same grade), he wants to go to the Vibe. We'll be seeing if he can go there as he's 3 months shy of 14. He went to the Edge last year and thought it was okay but has no desire to return.

Whether they will allow a child within weeks/months of a birthday to move-up will depend on the demographics of that particular cruise. As a PP mentioned, if the kids club is "full" (they have a capacity level by age group), it will not be allowed. If there is space, it may be allowed. Nobody can determine that in advance.

An alternative (yes, I know you said he has no desire to do so) is that the 14 year old can still go to Edge. Age range in Edge is 11-14.

Im not sure if you have been on a cruise before or not.. but I think she should try out the Edge. My daughter was 13 last year and went to the Edge.. The first day she didn't think it was gonna be too great, but.. At about 10 that night she had a group of about 9 friends and they were all her age. She did not feel out of place. There is a wide variety of ages in the Edge so there may be some 11 year olds.. but there is also a lot of 13 year olds there.
I could see part of the reason why the overlapping age for the Edge/Vibe is 14, because that is the age where it is based on maturity on which club the would go to. I don't necessarily think a 13 year old would be best fit for the vibe, but I don't know your daughter and it is up to you both. But, keep in mind that there will be high schoolers in the Vibe, and your daughter will be middle school.
Personally, my 14 year old is choosing to go into the vibe because she is on more of a highschool level than a middle school and is more outgoing. But I digress. This is all up to y'all!

We are having the same issue in April with my son who will be 14 in June. My 15 year old DD will be in Vibe and it will be so much easier for us if they were together...coming and going at the same time.

Last cruise they were in separate clubs and they had different schedules, going in different directions, which was just a little more tracking on my end.

I thought it would be great when they were older and we wouldn't have to drag them out of the clubs, but with freedom to come and go as they please come other worries

Not too mention having to stay awake until their clubs close!

My daughter and her friend, both 13 were unimpressed with Edge. They thought it was lame. They didn't bother trying Vibe. Needless to say they didn't partake in the kid clubs.

We're trying to decide on a cruise or WDW next year b/c of this. We have a DS who will be weeks shy of 14, and the last two years has really not enjoyed the Edge AT ALL. He gives it a try and ends up sitting with us by the pool every afternoon. The good news is he's asleep by 9:30 most nights b/c he's bored. This time he did go see a few late movies by himself, but mentally he just isn't doing the things they do in the Edge. he had 2 brothers and a sister in the VIBE in January and he asked if he could go and they said the new policy is they absolutely will not allow under aged into the VIBE.

Maybe they won't let 10 yos into Edge now either. Thank you for the recent report. My 14 yo wants to go to Edge next month, but reports here were saying that 10 yos were being allowed into Edge and 13 yos were being allowed into Vibe so he was reconsidering. Both he and DD enjoyed the Edge on the Fantasy last year.
