Shops & Thing To Do

Hello Everyone!!

Question-My daughter who is 11 years old cannot swim....I know it's sad and just not right. What fun things are there to do at Castaway Cay and in Nassau?? She's not afraid of water but really cannot swim either......she actually loves water.

Any advice or info would be much appreciated!!!

The family beach area is really quite shallow. Will she be comfortable just wading , maybe just sitting there playing in the water & sand? I know the kids club will have a location on the island and they do non-water things.

Bikes are available for rent, also.

Castaway Cay - As previous poster mentioned the area at the family beach is very shallow. There is a roped off area that you can rent a tube and float around on. Lots of lifeguards around.

Other things - participate in the crab races (free), rent bikes and explore the bike trails - you can bike along the old airport runway or out to the lookout tower. There is also a games area and Spring A Leak - a small water park type area - just water shooting up and sideways randomly.

I've read about a scavenger type hunt sheet that you can pick up at Guest Services before you disembark - but haven't looked into it.

Also, you can do the stingray activity or glass bottom boat (both $ excursions). There are a few shops - one local and two DCL.

Nassau - there is plenty to do without going in the water. Explore the shops or walk up to the Fort (awesome views) / Queen Anne's Staircase, there is a pirate museum and some type of gardens (DCL has an excursion to it). Jewellery shop in Nassau. The shops on Castaway Cay are just Bahamian tourist type items and Castaway Cay souvenirs.

Have fun.

Shopping on CC is very limited...you are probably better off looking in Nassau for jewelry.
Also, you can get lifejackets on CC for no charge, if that would make swimming a possibility.

Does she like to bike ride? you can rent bikes on the island. You can walk but depending on when you go it can be very hot. DH ran the 5K in June and said the heat was brutal.

we are going in a couple weeks and my mom can't swim so we rented her a floation device for the day I think it was only $6. As PPs have said the water is really shallow. Also as mentioned life jackets are free. You can get them at the rental hut and near the slide (but those are just for Pelican Plunge). I can swim but I used a lifejacket to swim out to the slide.
