Hoop Dee Doo- ever do category 1?

This is DD10's most favorite meal, so I was thinking of trying to get category 1 this August. We've always done category 2 on the DP, and this was one the first ADRs requested when calling in 180 days in advance. Somehow, we've always gotten the same table by the pole near the kitchen door (to the extreme diagnal left when facing the stage) on the outer edge of the dining room, and its pretty close with a decent view. Would the category 1 be an improvement? We'd either do the late show with the DP, or OOP with TIW, if we do cat 1.

We did cat 1 and were right by the stage, but they assign you according to when you reserve and your party size. So, call ASAP at the 180 day mark to get the best seats.

We did Category 1 and we were right up at the stage. It was a great experience. We did book right at the 180 day mark.
Then last year we used DDP for Category 2 - big mistake ! We were at a rectangular table at the very back of the hall. There were no other rectangular tables, it looked like they just added ours at the last minute - and we had again booked at 180 days ! I complained so much, that they gave us back 1 DDP credit for each person.

I think it's still first to reserve gets the best seats for that category, but SoA has long tables, so the same table can seat two parties of four or one party eight.

We love being very close to the stage - always had the same waitress every year
Cat 1 is worth the money and laughs.

We booked a cat. 2 or maybe even 3 last Friday night a few hours before the show. Not on the dining plan and it was the only cat. they had available. We were 2 tables from the front of stage. I still don't know how tables are assigned.

You got lucky! I bet they had a cancelations and didn't want empty tables near the stage....

We had category 1 on our trip in May. Our original night was actually cancelled so we rescheduled for our last night. I kept second guessing rescheduling but I'm so glad we did. We were in the second row and they maybe had 10 tables full that night. It was still when the late show was at 9:30pm instead of 8:30pm. They picked on us for being from Wisconsin and my son got chosen to be the sheriff. We had the BEST time ever. I'm booking it again for our trip in December but my dad is coming along and he has no desire whatsoever to be a part of the show so I was thinking either category 2 or 3...

We did category 1 on our December trip and we were right up front next the the stage on the left. It was great and so entertaining!

That is the exact table we got when we were there in October. We were right at the pole near the kitchen on the left hand side. It was a pretty good table I guess. I am not sure how well my DS could see since he was sitting right near the pole.

We were on the DP and I didn't want to go to the late show to be able to use DP credits for cat 1. I would definitely do cat 2 again.
