Gty

Take my advice do not book GTY unless you willing to take ANYTHING! We are frequent cruisers, but only second time on Disney and first time doing GTY. We booked a GTY 10A. Got our assignment today and we are on deck 2. If it didn't involve so much $ I would cancel. Who in God's name calls going from an upper deck to deck 2 an upgrade? So what it has a tiny little window. There is no way I would ever pay this type money for a deck 2 willingly. Probably our last Disney cruise as I feel like we were Hoodood. And before any of you get your knickers in a wad we are HUGE Disney fans and yes we misunderstood, but I feel like Disney is really stretch this saying it is an upgrade. I'd take my 10A any day over this.

Sorry you don't like deck 2. I think the easy access on port days plus the quiet halls makes for a great location.

Oh no! I am so sorry that you are disappointed. If it helps, I've read GREAT things about deck 2 here on the Dis boards. Deck 2 has quite a few fans! Here's to hoping you have a wonderful cruise!

Ditto ..we love how quiet and convention deck 2 is. We booked a GTY on the Magic 2months ago in a ocean view and received our room # and it is a deluxe ocean view with the large window

Hopefully you will feel better about it when you are on the ship. We were on deck 7 on the Magic and I was wicked seasick, on the Wonder we had deck 2 and I didnt feel a thing. I liked the room and hall much better so sometimes deck 2 is awesome!

Lots of people like deck 2. We cruised in an inside room on that deck once and you can't tell where you are on the ship when you are inside the room. An oceanview IS an upgrade from an inside room. It's clear that GTY means that you have to accept any room they give you. Have you looked to see if there is another category available? You locked in prices for all categories at the time you booked your room. You can still upgrade for that same price today.

I am also sorry that you are disappointed. I guess that if the deck that you are assigned to is important then GTY is not a good option for you. It looks like they upgraded you from an inside room to an outside room. I have also heard good things about deck 2. We booked a Category 6 VGT ressie for our recent Fantasy cruise and were assigned to a Category 4e stateroom on deck 5. Ironically, I've read that deck 5 is not that desirable because there's a lot of traffic due to the kid's clubs and theaters. We were deck 5 fore and found it to be very quiet. We were very satisfied and will definitely try to book another VGT in the future. We really wouldn't mind being assigned to deck 5 except for the fact that we really love having a verandah (and that's impossible on deck 2).

Hope you can overcome your disappointment and enjoy your cruise.

I don't get it. When you book a GTY you are agreeing to take any room that you are assigned, you WERE upgraded to a room with a window. If you aren't going to be happy with what they assign you should never book a GTY

Sorry you aren't happy but I say make the best of it or try to change it at the port when you arrive

I think that is what I said. If you aren't willing to take anything don't book GTY. We made the mistake and hope others learn from ours. Kinda that old "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" deal.

I would say if you think you made a mistake, it was you didn't understand that an oceanview would be an upgrade from an inside room. I don't understand how you wouldn't understand that.

Personally, except for 1 cruise, we've always done GTY. And every cruise we've been on deck 2 (our personal favorite). I don't think the window in the room is "tiny", but I guess that's a personal point of view.

There are rooms on the lower decks that have 2 small windows instead of the one in your picture

Are you talking about the newer ships? My picture is on the Wonder. Deck 2 rooms on the classic ships have one large porthole. The rooms on deck 1 have 2 small portholes.

What does GTY mean? We are booked on our second cruise next year and the acronyms are still foreign to me.

Booking a GTY (guarantee) means that you select a category of room, but DCL will assign the specific room at a later date. It's possible that the assigned room will be a higher category than your GTY category, but you won't pay any additional money.
