Booking meal time

How and where do I book if I want early or late dinner seating?

Thanks!

This is done at the time of reservation. When you book on the DCL site you can choose seating (I think it defaults to second seating) or tell your TA.

The default is second seating. Make sure you request what you want as soon as you can. The closer you get to the cruise the early dining will fill up. Because I have a teenager I will not cruise unless I have early dining and I always have to get them to change it after I book because of the default time.

Get on waitlist for Main Seating if you miss out

I booked a year in advance and dropped the ball on changing our dining time. With a 5 yo we wanted main seating but of course it was full. Tried the day we got on the ship to switch but wasn't able (party of 5). Our dining manager (Witt) tried every day to get us main seating, we were able to switch 3 of the 7 nights because when a table decides to go to Palo or Remy their table becomes available and he has a list of waiting families. He was great in calling us every day with an update.

We prefer late seating but we don't have young kids (12 and 17 when we cruise this year). The later time gives us more tim to enjoy ourselves and time for us to get dressed to pictures before dinner.

Great to know your head waiter worked so hard for you. At least you got to have 3 early seatings!

As others have stated it is at time of booking. We did 1st service 2 xs. Our last trip with a 5 and 11 year old we did second. It was sooooooooo much more relaxing. We weren't rushing around after excursions and what not. I highly recommend second seating.

We had first seating on our first cruise and missed all the sunsets. Now we do second seating with a snack around 5ish and enjoy the sunsets. With second seating there's no rush when come back from being in port and getting ready for dinner.

My DW and I had 2nd seating on the Fantasy in Sept, but found that when we wanted to go to the adult shows, the were so crowded it was impossible to get in. We are doing a Feb 2014 cruise and asked for 1st seating.

My DH and I have 2nd seating on our cruise in Sept, hopefully we don't run into that problem of the shows being full!!!

Were you and your DW seated at a table with other people or were you able to just have a table for the 2 of you?

I didn't even think of being rushed at the ports to get back in time for the first seating, I'll will have to weigh my options again! Hmmmm

I would recommend talking it out with your entire family. On some of the excursion days we were rushed for dinner or some we even ordered our appetizer the night before because we knew we would be late. But for us, it is much better than never seeing my teenager at dinner or having to hassle with him over dinner because he does not want to miss the evening activities with the other teens.
