I have just a quick question, what is the earliest that we will be able to board the ship? I want to get there as early as we can to avoid long lines Thank you

disney has little control of the time boarding will start. You can hope 11:30.

When you do your online checkin, you will select at Port Arrival Time. These are 1/2 hour windows (11:00-11:30; 11:30-12:00; 12:00-12:30; etc). This is the window that you should arrive at the port.

Your PAT is tied to the actual boarding number that you receive when you checkin at the port.

If you arrive earlier than your selected PAT, and the terminal is busy, you will be asked to wait until either your PAT or when the terminal is less busy to enter.

Boarding begins generally about 11:45 (sometimes earlier, sometimes later) by announcing boarding #1 (Concierge), #2 (Platinum CC members), #3 and so on. Depending on what your boarding number is, you will board fairly quickly or not so much. Once the number being announced for boarding catches up with the number being issued at checkin, Open Boarding in announced (usually around 12:30-12:45). At this time anyone holding any boarding number may board.

If you arrive early, and are allowed to enter the terminal, you will receive the same boarding number as you would had you arrived at your selected PAT. You will see others arriving after you (at their correct PAT) boarding before you.

EDIT: Usually the earlier you are there, longer the line, as that's when most people feel they want to be there.
Your best time for shorter, quicker lines would be between 12:30-1:00. That's after the Open Boarding has started and the busses haven't arrived from the resort yet.

The way to avoid lines is to arrive at the terminal later, not earlier. From the time they open the terminal (10 or so) until about 1 pm, there are lines to check in at the terminal and then another wait until you are called to board.

I got to Port Canaveral about 12:30 and while open boarding had started, there was a 20 minute or so line to check in at the terminal.

If you want to avoid the long lines than arriving later rather than earlier is a good bet. Many people are in a rush to board and disreguard the "advice" and arrive thinking they will just stroll on board.

The terminal hasn't opened at 10:00 a.m. for over a year [I think it was July/August 2011]. It now opens at 11:00 a.m.

Unless you are going concierge, this is the best advise to avoid all of the crowds.

Port now opens at 11 (earliest), and I have seen many people be told they have to wait until their assigned check in time, and not allow them to enter any earlier - this is to HELP CONTROL the lines.

If you show up at your time slot, your wait in lines will go quickly and smoothly (about a 20 minute process - through security, check in, photos, children clubs check in to actual boarding the ship).

Less lines and wait between 12-1pm (took us 8 mins from security to board ship!)

Great to know we were thinking that earlier would be better.

does the same go for boarding in Galveston. Is it better to get to Galveston closer to open boarding time, 12:30 or after?? We leave in 6 days on Magic.

I would imagine that it would be the same. We sailed out of the Port of LA on the Wonder and arrive past noon. No lines; walked right on after checking in......

Pretty common for most ports that if you arrive around 11:30-12:30 the lines are non existant and you can walk right on without worry.

I think that with the new Boarding Policy this helps with the lines... you have a scheduled time to arrive and helps take off the "tension" of needing to be the 1st one at port to check in!
