Opening day or wait for OBB?

ok...so I understand that the Alaska and the Med cruises MAY be released next week We are going on our 1st DCL in May. I would like to go on either an Alaska or Med in 2014 and am just nervous that the prices will change drastically between opening day and when we can rebook in May. Not to mention the no OBC if we book on opening day.

How much do the prices go up after opening day? At what point do they go up? The next day? What do we doooooooo

How much the prices increase between opening day and a few months later will depend entirely on how many people book that particular cruise. One cruise may increase considerably while another may not. Suggest you book on opening day, and then re-shop the cruise when you are onboard in May - that way you'll have opportunity to get whichever is the "best" deal.

Enjoy your cruises!

The prices, depending on how popular the particular cruise is, can go up multiple times on the same day.

Book as soon as you are able. Then re-shop the reservation when you go on your cruise in May. I'd be willing to bet that both Alaska and the Med will have a lot more than you would save with an OBB.

ugh...ok! so nerve wracking. I am really hoping the speculation of them coming out next week would benefit me (the day proposed is my day off! haha). Now the other thing I understand is that if we WERE silver castaway club members our deposit would only be 10%? Since we aren't sailing until May on our first DCL, we have to do 20%...booo Or is the 10% just for OBB. I will definitely reshop it on the cruise.

I would definitely book on opening day with a TA that offers OBC then reshop when you sail in May. Most likely, with the popularity of the Alaska and Med sailings, the prices will have increased in May so you may not get the OBB discount and OBC from DCL but atleast you will have OBC from the TA.

The 10% deposit is only for OBB.

Silver CC status does not get you a lower deposit unless you booked onboard - and then it's not directly because of your CC status but because it's an OBB.

Do you know, can I book through DCL but attach a TA to it within 30 days and transfer the trip to the TA after I make all the arrangements?

You can 1) name a TA when you do the OBB, or 2) transfer it to a TA within 30 days of the original booking. If you make the original booking through a TA on opening day, then re-shop onboard, that TA should remain with the reservation.

My understanding is that travel agents get a lower commission for transferred reservations, so they might give you a lower amount of onboard credit.

You will most likely get more OBC by naming the TA at the time of your OBB. You can book onboard and then transfer but most TAs offer less OBC for transfers.

This was true for us. We booked onboard back in January then transferred our reservation to a TA, and the TA was only able to offer us half the onboard credit they offer if we had booked directly with them.

Well that bites! Understandable though I guess.
Hmmmm....decisions!!!

What time can you start booking on opening day (like online?). Can we call them to book? What number do you call? I must be blind because I can't find a phone number on their site.

Hmmm...not sure what time you can start booking online. For our upcoming Fantasy cruise, I just looked up what I wanted on opening day and emailed my TA at DU and she took care of the rest. I know that you can call them but I don't know what time or what the number is because I have never called. Sorry.
