Believe me when buying in the markets there is a giant cash market and vendors give a great discount for cash. I purchased a number of items really cheap for the fact that I paid cash. No...no...no...you really don't want to go to that type system....kills business...but grows an underground economy....

It does really sound like a great answer to our problem here but when you travel to Europe and see how it affects the economy locally you realize what actually happens. I thought the same (that makes two of us ) but when you travel there you see what happens when humans get involved.

At this time we do not have information regarding the VAT tax. However,
once onboard your may check your Personal Navigator for information. If
the VAT tax will be applicable Guests will be provided literature in
their stateroom and can attend presentations.

Each day on the ship a Personal Navigator, like a daily newspaper, will
be delivered to your stateroom with a complete updated listing of all
onboard activities, adventures, and entertainment. The Personal
Navigator also includes sections for each child's age group and for
teens, listing activities and entertainment that are appropriate for
each group.

Additional copies for your family to use during the cruise can be found
onboard at the Guest Services Desk on Deck 3, Midship.

The Personal Navigator is only available in English.

That is not to say that the VAT tax was not already incorporated into the overall price paid per person. Also I noticed that no VAT tax was not charged for Shutters purchases for usually Shutters is closed while in port so that makes sense.

On the 2010 Med cruises, there was no VAT applied.
