is Florida's new logo sexist?
I have to say, they could have done better. Seems to almost purposefully exclude women. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/...--finance.html

Yes. There are better ways to convey the message that are not exclusionary. I wonder if any women were involved in the decision making process. Given the good 'ole boy system that still exists in this state I am going to guess no.

Oh for crying out loud. People will read into it whatever they want. Hey business women if you feel it excludes you- go out and buy yourself some ties.

No it is not sexist. It's is about business. A tie is business attire. That's all. People certainly seem to look to get their panties in a twist about anything these days.

I don't think so. I also don't think it excludes men who don't wear orange ties. I think it's a clever, very simple way to focus attention on business interests as opposed to the typical "flip flop" way of seeing Florida. If I were a business woman in Florida I'd put on an orange tie and embrace a campaign that has business interests at heart.

I also wanted to add that it also appears exclusionary in the type of business it seems to want to attract. It appears to be seeking "white collar" business and jobs. One of the best businesses that I have helped to land here involves manufacturing.
ETA: This logo is for a public-private entity, Enterprise Florida, that is the State's Economic Development Agency not a logo for the state itself. I also think it's too "cutesy" for the importance of this agency. Last edited by Princess Dolly; 02-06-2013 at 11:50 AM. |

Wait. I just noticed that the tie is orange. ORANGE! Clearly it is against the Seminoles and only favors the Gators and Hurricanes.

I also think it's crazy that they spent $380,000 for the logo (to develop and market it). That could have been used for some great incentives for a company. I would like to also note that $205,000 of that $380,000 went to an out-of-state company.

I don't see a tie a sexist symbol, just a business symbol. I think they're just trying to show that Florida has a serious side, and isn't just one big theme park. Unfortunately, someone will always find something to be offended by.
