USPS To End Saturday 1ST Class Delivery

The USPS will end saturday first class mail delivery in August. This will be the start to what will lead to a 4 day delivery week down the road. Sorry, the USPS is already a slow form of delivery for many so taking away a delivery day lengthens the delivery window. Looks like they are following the P&G customer theory, charge more and provide less. Wasn't there just a postal increase?

yes..first class stamp went up by 1 cent.

Ending Sat delivery won't matter much to me. I hardly get any mail anymore, other than junk. All of my bills are sent to me online, and paid by me online. I rarely send cards, except at holiday time. I won't even notice the difference, lol!

I don't think I have gotten a piece of mail on a Saturday in the last 3 weeks either!

I still think it is a bargain to send a letter for <.50 & gets delivered in 3 days or less. What other carrier can provide that?

I have no problem with them going to 5 days a week, will have zero impact on me.

Probably didn't help that they totally wasted so much money sponsoring a "sport".

It is just 1st class mail (letters) packages will still be delivered on Saturday.

USPS is till faster then UPS/FEDEX for me. Since USPS is doing the last leg of their delivery for UPS/FEDEX packages and for some reason UPS/FEDEX has not figured out to drop them off before the carriers go out for delivery they have a day layover at the local USPS office.

familyoffive,
What letters do you still get in the mail?

It should save the post office about 2 billion a year. Seems like a good idea to me.

I wonder how many postal carriers will be affected with layoffs...

Won't be a problem to us. We mostly get junk anyway. I don't use the USPS for anything now except birthday cards - guess I'm old fashioned - those e-cards don't cut it with me.

Just because they are not delivering letters on Saturday, does not mean the mail is not in motion. The postal service works 7 days a week and gets the mail to the delivery locations. Ever mail something on Friday and wonder how it got there on Monday? It'll be the same thing, just more mail in your box on Monday.

For .46 cents you can have a letter delivered from your doorstep to the doorstep of someone else, 3,000 miles away.

What is there to complain about, really?

DD and I just had a shocker the other day when we went to the post office to mail some boxes of very late Christmas/birthday gifts to my grandchildren. One minute they were coming here next minute they weren't. I packed up all the gifts and ended up with 5 boxes.

The clerk said it would be $12 a box. $60. Can't afford that. Not when I recently received a $308.00 electric bill. plus State Farm is asking for a bundle. So I sadly walked out. The clerk said that there was a hike in their fees as of January 27, 2012. She then sneers as me and says good luck if you plan on going to any one else they are competitive with us.

Looks like my grandchildren will just have to wait longer until my DD can drive out for a visit. Feel bad, but I just can't justify spending that kind of money right now. And to top it off this was for Parcel Post.

Yep. No more OT for delivery drivers I suppose.

I am guessing the processing plants are still going to be open though?

The only thing it will slightly mess up for me is our Netflix delivery. We send back and receive netflix really regularly so this means longer times to receive stuff at the end/beginning of each week.
