Holy Cow Alaska $$$$!

I was looking at Alaska for next year and it is almost double for the same room category as what I am paying for my April 8 night out of Galveston, which includes transportation to and from WDW and park hoppers for the day. Still interested in Alaska, but wow..why so much more than other cruises?

I don't know why, but we are sad because Alaska is not going to be an option for us at those prices either. We would also be adding airfare of about $3000 for the five of us.

Seriously, price out Princess and Holland America. They really know how to cruise Alaska plus they have great cruise/land tours. We are platinum DCL cruisers so you can tell we love them (don't want you to think we are anti DCL). We cruised with HAL to Alaska and felt we made the right choice. We had zero complaints. We experienced so much by visiting Fairbanks, Denali, and Anchorage. We met the ship in Seward. Keep in mind, however, that we cruised Alaska without children.

As you can see we cruise Disney a lot but when it came to Alaska we did Princess Cruise Lines. Look at the Princess Alaska Cruise out of San Francisco. It is a 10 day round trip cruise out of San Francisco. It gives you extra sea days and when I calculated in the travel expenses it was much less.

We are currently pricing a longer Alaskan land sea tour and it's more than what we spent on Alaska DCL. Of course, one is longer, but if you're just looking at a certain $$$ amount, some of the others aren't a better "deal".

We have cruised Alaska twice. Once with Royal and once with Disney. RCCL was first and based on that cruise, we were less than impressed. We honestly could have skipped ever going again, but the kids wanted to try DCL Alaska and we were just blown away. Best experience. It ranks in our top 3 cruises.

You really can't compare the cruises out of Galveston with any other DCL cruises out of PC or Alaska. That is because they have had such a difficult time selling them. Even several itinerary changes didn't help and they have had to discount most sailings. Alaska is more popular, so the prices are going to be higher. The Fantasy's summer cruises were actually more than the Alaska cruises for the same weeks opening day for each.

It is expensive but from what I've read on the boards it's really worth it. What's really crazy, is the cost of the excursions. For our family of four, the excursions will cost almost as much as the cruise itself!

Had a friend take HAL to Alaska and had nothing but good things to say about it..BUT..since so many lines can do it so well for so much less, why is Disney able to fill the ships at such higher prices?

Glad to see the good reviews on HAL to Alaska. I plan on booking for Summer 2015 (so still a long time from now) for my DH's 40th birthday and our 5 year wedding anniversary. He has wanted to go for years.
