Hints for Checking out the Other Resorts

Hi - My daughter and I were discussing that we would
really like to spend some time checking out the other resorts, since we have never done this. We do not plan on having a car and thought we might check with folks on the DIS for hints on how to best do this? We will be staying at POFQ w/a trip planned for next January. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I love touring the other resorts, especially during the holidays. This is how I do it....I head to MK and then head to the CR, usually on foot, check it out and then take the boat from CR to WL...check that one out (love this resort!!). Then boat back to CR, and onto the monorail....off at the Polynesian and then off at GF. Monorail back to MK.
If you want to split your touring up over different days, then just go to a park on that day, and then head to various resorts. Head to either Epcot (if you're planning on going there, since you need to enter the park) or DHS. Then you can easily tour S/D, YC/BC, and BW.
Head to AK and take the bus to AKL and check out both Jambo House and Kidani.
If you want to do it all in one day...go to MK, tour those resorts. Bus to BW from MK...tour BW/S/D/YC/BC. Then, bus to AK, and transfer to the AKL bus.
You can take buses to any of the other resorts from the parks as well.

Joining your thread, OP, as I have a similar question. If staying at a Disney resort, can one park at another Disney resort to visit?

We're staying at the AKL, but the kids (and I) want to visit our old haunts at the Polynesian. I'm wondering if we can drive and park there. If there are any restrictions, etc.

If you have an ADR, you can park at a resort up to three hours; after that, you risk being towed. You will be given a parking pass with a time on it. This is especially true of the MK resorts, because people tend to try to park there all day so they don't have to pay for parking at the parks. Those resorts are especially vigilant regarding parking.

You can valet park all day for a fee at the resort.

I do a great deal of resort hopping when I go the week after Thanksgiving.

One year, I did a solo, all resorts, no parks trip. It was wonderful.

I do the monorail loop first, then take the boat over to WL and have lunch.

I do the BC/YC/BW/Swan/Dolphin loop as well.

AKL is tough, since it is kinda isolated, but it has so many wonderful places to eat, explore, etc, well worth.

I stay at POR, so I have the extra advantage of taking the bus from any resort back to DTD and then take the water taxi back. This cuts down on having to remember which parks close when to get back to a resort.

Thanks for the info, Missytara. Three hours should be sufficient.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Really like the idea of taking the boat to WL and did not even think of the connect with DTD to use the water taxi's to get back to POFQ!

I used to set aside just one day for resort hopping.... Breakfast lunch dinner... It is a fun day. That was also back when I was younger and did not know I was not allowed to use the pool at other resorts...

Ignorance is bliss! LOL! I doubt you be able to relax and have quite as much fun at those pools now that you know the rules.

I have told everyone that the huge advantage to staying at POR/POFQ is the option of taking a bus from the resort to the hub at DTD and then the water taxi back. The water taxis run every 10 minutes after 4 pm, so you are never waiting very long.

Also, you can see the top of the volcano at RFC where the dock is located, from the bus hub, so for newbies, it is a great way to explain the location of the dock.

Of course, I always seem to get diverted into the Christmas shop, or any shop for that matter, so it is never a straight shot for me to the boat dock!
