Second guessing my ADR at 1900 Park Fare for dinner - Help!

So, we (my mom, 6 and 4 year old) are driving to WDW from N.C. on a Sunday, and staying at Contemporary. I thought for dinner that night we would probably be tired, but hopping on the monorail would be fun for the kiddos, and I got a ressie for 6:05pm. We want have an early-ish dinner, and get back to the room to have a nice full night's sleep before out first full day. But my two issues are -

(1) We have 4 more character meals scheduled for the week (including Chef Mickey's, Garden Grill, Crystal Palace, and CRT) and I don't know what kind of precedent I'll be setting with 1900 Park Fare as our first one.

(2) The reviews are all over the place! I know it's buffet, and I think that will be easy with a tired group, but is it truly awful?

No, it's not awful and your children will LOVE it! My daughters were 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 when we went and it was one of their favorites. The food isn't anything special but the characters are awesome.

I think its a fun meal to start your trip off with. I don't think you can ever have too many character meals with little kids (unless your kid is afraid of them )

We have CRT booked for our first night during May trip but since CRT changed their menu we switched to 1900 Park Fare. We have 3 other character meals that trip as well.

(We ate there on our honeymoon and had no problems with the food. Its normal buffet food)

Had dinner there in mid December, found the food to be better prepared and more variety than it was a few years ago. Still normal buffet food, just better than before. The characters here are unique (except for Cindy) so no duplicating characters seen at other meals. The step sisters are a riot and DH considers them alone worth getting an ADR for this meal, always lots of fun.

Food is not good at all. Selection and quality were bad. BUT the step sisters were so funny. If your kids really want to go for characters, i say go for it.

My family was happily surprised, it was much better than we expected after reading the reviews and we had a very enjoyable time with the characters.

I will try every restaurant in WDW once, I've learned that the reviews vary greatly and it's impossible to go by them.

This was our favorite meal the whole week! We were worried because of reading bad reviews, but let me tell you, not only was the food wonderful but the characters were great! The evil step sisters stole the show! This is a wonderful choice for your 1st character meal. In my opinion you should just cancel your CRT reservation and save your money. Chef Mickey's is great for the experience but the food there is truly horrible. We ate there for the breakfast buffet last April and unless a miracle has occurred and it is suddenly cleaner and better then you should just cancel that too.

We had about 6 character meals on our last trip (1900 dinner being one of them) and loved them all in different ways!

DH and I thought the food was very good, but we are easy to please and not nitpicky at all. I enjoyed the character interaction, but my kids (both boys) had more fun at Chef Mickey's and 'Ohana. But they had fun at each meal - 1900 just wasn't their favorite.

It all comes down to experience, so try it! Worst case scenario: you don't like it and won't want to eat there again. Best case: You have a new favorite.

Something else to consider as it's your first night is it might be nice to start with all face characters in case any of your kiddos needs time to warm up to the furry ones. The step sisters are quite funny, Lady Tremaine is a teensy bit intimidating but all in good fun and I didn't find the food particularly memorable but far from disgusting. I thought it was a nice selection of buffet quality food and it would be a nice way to start a trip.

I'd say keep it. It will be fun for the first night to see the Cinderella characters. The place is hectic, and the food can be a little inconsistent, but we really enjoy it. I would not say the food is bad. We've eaten there 3 times. Once, I would say the food was mediocre. The other 2 times, including just a couple of months ago, we thought the food was good. It will also give you a chance to enjoy the GF lobby and its band or pianist.

When it comes to character entertainment, this place with the step sisters is absolutely hillarious. However, when it comes to the food it is mediocre at best for some items and way less than average at worst on other items. I say go there for the entertainment and fun and not expect much from the mundane buffet offerings. Just my 2 cents.

I would say keep it. A lot of times the people who post the reviews are those who have had a not-so-pleasant experience. And everyone has different expectations! Give it a try and see what you think for yourselves. We have tried several restaurants, and some had reviews that made me wonder if we should try someplace different. I can honestly say we have enjoyed all but one restaurant - and that one was okay.

We didn't like the food, but the step sisters were hilarious. I think the kids would love the character interaction .

We've eaten there for dinner twice. The first time, the food was delicious. Both DH and I went back for seconds. The character interaction was ok that time, although we were happily surprised to see Ariel there as a surprise guest. The second time, the food was just ok, but the step sisters were hilarious! One even proposed marriage to our nephew. Much better than our first time.

But despite the inconsistency, I would definitely dine again. There are definitely a lot more positives than negatives.

Been there twice.... food great both times... plenty to choose from... if it has not changed, the characters are a little different than CRT. When we were there, it was Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drizella. That was the norm but could always change. And we like to visit the Grand Floridian lobby too and listen to the band or piano player.

I agree the stepsisters are hilarious. I could care less about Cindy being there.... I told the stepsisters I loved them because they are so much fun and Cindy is such a bore (boring...) if we were going out to party! They liked that!
Our Disney Vacations: 2008-2014, 6 trips: Halloween, Christmas, Star Wars Weekend. Favorite resorts - All Stars, Pop Century, Port Orleans Riverside, Polynesian. Best Tip - Don't try to do it all... Go slower, relax, take a break, have an excuse to come back. Don't miss - Dapper Dans (MK), Flights of Wonder (AK), Fantasmic (HS), Mo-Rockin' (Epcot).
