When should I plan to arrive at Port

I see the terminal opens at 11:00 but boarding doesn't start until 1:00. DH and I are having disagreements on arrival time. We have taken DCL transfers and arrived later which meant we rushed to have lunch and didn't have time to swim before the muster drill. We also previously arrived at 11:00 and sat around bored for what felt like a really long time, but then we enjoyed the extra time we had on the ship before the ship left port. So what would be a good compromise for us, minimizing the time sitting around in the terminal but maximizing the time on the ship? If we arrive at 11:00 we will be waiting around for at least 2 hours. How about if we arrive at noon, what time are we likely to board? We are on the Fantasy if that matters.

First question, when is your PAT? Port arrival time. This will dictate your boarding number. Boarding usually begins aound 11:45. If you arrive to check in before your PAT, you could be allowed into the terminal to check in, but will have to wait for your boarding number to be called.

Our current PAT is 11:00, wasn't sure if I should change that. I was looking at disneycruise.com and it said boarding doesn't start until 1:00. If we can start boarding sooner then DH can handle that. Part of that time is checking in. Hopefully we will get an early boarding number then! I just don't want to start the trip with Grouchzilla!

You should plan to arrive at port near your Port Arrival Time (PAT) which you select during online check-in.

Port officially opens at 11:00am, sometimes earlier, but if you have a later PAT you may be requested to wait outside the terminal if you arrive too early.

Boarding typically begins around 11:45pm. Your boarding number will be given when you check-in at the port and is tied to your PAT, so arriving early will not get you an earlier boarding. However, "open boarding" often begins around 12:30 or 1:00pm because by that time the boarding numbers called for passengers to board the ship have caught up with the number given out at check-in.
