Hoop de Doo from MK or off day?
Is it a pain to leave MK for dinner at Hoop de Doo? I see MK is the closest park to Fort Wilderness, but how long would we need to allow to get there from MK?
Our other option is to drive there in our car from the Art of Animation resort (where we'll be staying) on our free day when we aren't visiting the parks. Would that be the best option? ETA: Or I suppose we could take a bus to Fort Wilderness from Art of Animation? Which would be faster if we chose that day? We are driving so we'll have our own car. |

It is super easy to get from Magic Kingdom to Ft. Wilderness, you can take a boat. The boat will drop you off close the HDDR. If you drive or take a bus, it will let you off in the front of the campground, and then you have to use the Fort Wilderness internal bus system.

We're going to go to either Hoop De Doo, Chef Mickey's or (maybe) 1900 Faire on our off day, just trying to decide which. |

Just take the boat launch that's located in front of the Magic Kingdom exit. They are clearly marked so you can see which boat you need to take.
It's smart to do that dinner on a MK day. If you drove or took a bus to Fort Wilderness, you would have to park the car and then transfer to a resort bus anyway. You would also have to transfer if you took a bus. The boat from MK drops you off right at the trading post/dining area. Easy.

I second this. Pioneer Hall (where HDDR takes place) is very close to the boat dock, so it's much easier and will take less time if you take the boat from MK. Plus, it's a very nice, scenic ride!

My kids still talk about Hoop De Doo when they were 7. They are now 12 and in that weird tween age, but want to go back. Have a blast!
It is so easy to get to if you take the boat from MK. I hear any other way is rather convoluted. |

Boat ride is perfect, quick and drops you right there! Internal bus system isn't so bad though, in our experience we never waited to long for one. Oh and mickey backyard BBQ is there too so fun!!Good luck!

Personally, I would strongly recommend going to the Hoop on your off day, when you are rested. This would be the highlight of a "down" day. I would hang at the pool, or maybe visit DTD during the day, rest up and head to the HDDR in the evening. I don't think you will enjoy it as much if you go from the MK on a day when folks are tired. As others have said it is an easy boat trip from the MK If you are going from AoA, I would take a bus to the MK and then the boat over to the Fort. It is really a pleasant boat trip. I would allow about 45 minutes for the trip, which includes waiting for the boat. We LOVE HDDR. Have Fun!!!

Unfortunately, though, I booked Chef Mickeys dinner for our off day, and now I can't seem to move it to our free Magic Kingdom evening. (all booked) I got a late breakfast, though, around 10. |
