Post Alaska Cruise Dining Rotation

Hi All,

I am booked on the September 2nd Alaska Cruise and wondered whether anyone knew what the dining rotation is likely to be?

We are looking to book Palo reservations for brunch and dinner and want to know which is the best MDR night to miss. I am not partial to Parrot Cay and I definitely want to experience the Taste of Alaska Night but otherwise have no real preferences.

Thank you!

I have the same question. I did some research by reading past years navigators. From what I have found, in 2011 There was one night that all MDR served Taste of Alaska. In 2012 the Taste of Alaska menu was served in Parrot Cay every night, expect special menu nights. In 2011 they left on Tues and in 2012 they left on Mon, but the days did not vary.

Day 1 Sea day AP-Show dinner, PC Taste of Alaska, T-French
Day 2 Sea day Golden Mickey in all MDR
Day 3 Tracy Arm AP-show dinner, PC Taste of Alaska, T-French
Day 4 Skagway AP-show dinner, PC Taste of Alaska, T-French
Day 5 Juneau Pirates Dinner in all MDR
Day 6 Ketch Captain's Gala in all MDR
Day 7 Sea day Till we meet again in all MDR

There is a chance this year will not have Taste of Alaska in all, like above. We are on the first cruise of the year. Will try to remember to bring home navigators. Hope that helps.

It would be great if you could post your navigators when you return

Last year in 2012, we had our Palo night on Taste of Alaska but headed in the MDR to try the crab legs. MEH. I thought that menu was worth skipping.

Our rotation was:

TAPTAPT

I also hate Parrot Cay and so was very happy with that rotation. Pirate's night was in Triton's, but it was super convenient since the Pirate party was in the lobby so just next door.

So was my research correct? Did they have Taste of Alaska in Parrot Cay every night that wasn't a special dinner? Or was it only one evening?

Thanks

The Taste of Alaska menu is served on Pirate night. There was no pirate menu and the servers did not dress up as pirates.

I think I read that the Taste of Alaska menu was used for Pirate Night one season. And then the Taste of Alaska menu became the PC Signature menu for the next season.

According to the Navigators posted in link above, in 2011, Taste of Alaska was night 4 (same menu in all MDRs). In 2012, Taste of Alaska was the Signature Menu in PC.

Last year Pirate Night became taste of Alaska. We had Palo on signature menu PC night so I can't tell you what it was!

How weird. Not for our cruise. Our servers had bandanas and did a dance parade thing. Then the pirate party was right outside in the lobby. Taste of Alaska was also not on pirate night (if I remember correctly, I might be wrong).

Obviously, DCL varied the menus on the Alaska cruises for whatever reason since there are reports from people both in 2011 [our experience] and 2012 [according to holula's post from their cruise] that the Taste of Alaska menu was used on Pirate night. So the answer to the question about the menus is there is no rhyme or reason to when that menu will be used on your cruise. Sorry!

We were on the first Alaska sailing of 2012 (the only one that sailed out of Vancouver and into Seattle), so our itinerary was slightly different than the remainder of the season. For us, Taste of Alaska was the Pirate Night menu. We were given the pirate bandanas and told to go to the pirate show that night, but the dining menu itself was Taste of Alaska (we therefore never had a pirate menu). It was an odd pairing. So it wouldn't surprise me if that combination was changed for the rest of the season.

The Taste of Alaska is always served all three at the same night. The rotational menus are out on the rotation nights.

Pirates Night in Alaska, there are no fireworks. I think how much Pirates you get depends on your server. We were given the bananas at dinner, but that was about it. However, on your character breakfast, they also still were doing Island theme breakfast with music and island/hawaiian dressed characters. I'd have rather they were dressed in their alaska outfits.

As to OP, Parrot Cay is our least favorite menu of the three also. We booked Palo the first night and then requested a rotation with PC our first night. It worked out great for us.

While I enjoyed the Taste of Alaska Menu (I know it has mixed reviews on here) it wasn't a don't miss moment. Heck, the ship is provisioned in Vancouver/Seattle, so it's not like Captain Mickey was buying it off the fishing boats while you were touring Ketchikan.

I have seen others posts saying they don't like dining at Palo early in the week as it ruins them for the rest of the cruise. We didn't think so, and why not start off with a bang.

Personally, I'd worry about booking the Palo brunch that is harder to get and then figure out dinner. You can't go wrong. On our very first 4 night cruise, we did Palo on Pirate night as it was the only night to guarantee to hit all three of the rotational, and then had Brunch the next morning. It led to our new Palo rule. Brunch can never immediately follow Palo dinner.

We were on the first cruise in 2012 too so that may be the explanation!
