What would you do? Fantasy or Wonder?

Hi- I need help from all of you expert cruisers deciding which cruise to take. We are a family of five, 2A, 3C (11,6,2) deciding between:

- 5 night Caribbean on Wonder out of Miami; 4A for $4,200
- 7 night Western Caribbean on Fantasy out of PC; 4A for $6,580

Both February 2014

Background: This is our second cruise ever, first was Fantasy Eastern itinerary last year. We'd rather do 7 nights, but can't seem to justify the cost difference ($2,400) as well as the fact that we've been on the Fantasy. I'd like to see all new shows, etc... Also, the Fantasy has two more ports, Costa Maya and Grand Cayman. Are we missing a lot? Will the Wonder disappoint after the Fantasy?

Thank you!!

Personally, I'd go with the Fantasy, for 2 reasons, we haven't done the Fantasy yet and it's a longer cruise.

That being said, I think you're leaning toward the Wonder. And that's certainly a good choice, also. You'll see new shows, and a new ship. While it doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" that the Fantasy has, it's a good ship/cruise. And the cost is more comfortable for you.

I had the same issue for my April cruise. I had the Fantasy booked for 7 nights (did it last April) but I ended up switching to the 5 night Wonder (never been on Wonder) because kids were free and I was paying half for the same 04A category. I will miss the perks of the Fantasy but could use that money for something else... like another cruise.

Also: I have done Fantasy once and Dream twice. Same stuff, same shows... while it's great, I wanted something different.

We have cruised 8 times on the Magic/Wonder and once on the Fantasy. With that cost difference, I would book the Wonder based on the per day cost. Sea days are great and will give you more time to explore the ship. Both of my kids have asked when we will be on the Magic again, so they still love that ship even though we have been on the Fantasy.

I love the Wonder. I will always be fond of it because it was our first cruise ship.

With that said, 5 nights is simply not enough. We didn't feel 7 nights was enough on the Wonder. So for 2400.00= two more ports, Remy, Bibbibi Bobbibi boo dress up, 40% larger ship, the expanded concept of Animator's Palette ......

We are reverse from what you have done. We went on the Wonder first and now have booked the Western Caribbean on the Fantasy in 2014 so in a year I will have an opinion on whether the Wonder will disappoint.

Either way, with a good attitude and some Disney magic, you can't go wrong. Good luck!

Thank you all for your advice and opinions. We are typically the sort of family that goes somewhere different, never the same vacation twice. If one of the other ships had a 7 nighter, we would jump on it in a heartbeat for the price of the Fantasy. So, cost is not the main issue at all.

I really enjoy the shows, which is another reason I am leaning towards Wonder. We are even considering 10 days on the Wonder with a B2B, because 5 is too short. Different ports, but of course, same shows. Decisions, Decisions....

That's a tough one, but a dilemma we have started to face ourselves.

The Fantasy is my favorite ship, hands down. The Wonder is my second favorite. Our next cruise will be DCL #10 and we have repeated many of the same itineraries.

The money would probably make me book the Wonder at least half of the time... so I can continue to book the Fantasy on other occasions. 5 nights was a nice length of time, it was surprising what that additional 1 night added to our previous 4 night cruises. It's not 7 but it was a good length.

This.^^^^

Go for the Wonder for sure. We have been on the Wonder twice, Magic twice, Dream once, Fantasy twice (about to be a 3rd time in 37 days), & we are all itching to get back to the classics (including my almost 6 year old DD).

Usually, I'd say longer cruise wins out, but nit with that cost difference. Save the money!!!

Normally I'd go with "longer is better." However, longer isn't worth $1K per day. I'd go Wondering.

We love both ships, they are our 2 favorites. Does the Wonder stop at Castaway Cay? That would be a factor for us. You mention back to back on the Wonder. Consider not only repeat of the shows, but also repeat of the menus. We did back to back on Fantasy last summer and it was the menu repeats that bothered us more than that shows. We liked the repeat of the shows so we didn't feel the need to see them all during the 1st cruise because we had another opportunity. But the same menus got old for us. 14 night cruise was AMAZING!!!

Either ship is great, just remember there's no Aqua Duck and the kids clubs are different on the Wonder.

I'm another vote for the Wonder. If you've already done the Fantasy and can save that kind of money, that would be the one I'd do for sure. We were in the same sort of situation for our upcoming March cruise. Originally, we were looking to do a 3 or 4 night on one of the new ships with extended family, but then we found the Wonder 5 night out of Miami for about the same amount of money (less than the 4 night but a little more than the 3 night), and we jumped on it. 5 nights to us was better than 3 or 4 no matter what ship we were on. Although 7 nights is even better, I'd save the money and try out a ship that's new to you. Good luck with your decision.

Susan

I think it depends how far you have to travel. I would have to fly cross country and doing it for a 5 day would not be worth it to me unless I could pair it easily with a WDW trip. Otherwise there's no way I'm going to spend all that time and money to get there for just a 5 night vacation.

Definitely the Wonder for me. We've sailed all 4 and although the Fantasy has the 'whistles and bells' as someone put earlier, the Wonder is just beautiful in her own right.

The adult pool and hot tubs on the Wonder are much nicer than on the new ships, not including Satellite Falls which is my favourite place anywhere!

You could use the extra money to rebook another cruise onboard!!

I haven't been on the Fantasy but for the price difference I would definitely pick the Wonder. It's my favourite ship.
