Please help me decide!

We are planning our first cruise ever and it will be on board the wonder. I am trying to choose between categories. We are currently booked in an inside stateroom cat 10, but I can upgrade to cat 07a for about $470. Is it worth it? Having never been on a cruise I am expecting we won't be in the room much, but I don't want to kick myself for not upgrading. What do you think? Of course I would love to save the money!!

I have NEVER been in an inside room. I will not book anything less than a verandah room. To me, it is worth it. To some, it isn't. For a $500 dollar difference, I wouldn't hesitate but then again, that's me.

I would rather have the $470. For my money, and my family I figure we can always see the ocean for free by going out on the deck. We don't really plan on being in the room much anyway when we cruise.

We have been on 2 cruises and have only stayed in inside staterooms. To me it isn't worth the extra, because we are never in our room. We get 2 inside staterooms since there are 6 of us. I would rather spend the extra money on something else. Just my opinion. We have young children, so we don't want a veranda room (one more thing to worry about).

Our first cruise we were in an oceanview stateroom on the Dream and LOVED it. Then we booked a last minute cruise on the Magic and got an inside stateroom. While we didn't have a problem with the inside stateroom, I know that the only reason I'd ever book inside again was if price was a factor. Other than that, I don't think I can ever book below an oceanview category. I'll have my first verandah in March on the Fantasy so perhaps after that cruise, I'll never book below that category again. So for me, it'd be worth it to upgrade.

We have only done one cruise. We had a veranda room. We rarely went on veranda - may 10 mins total each day. We did like having curtains open and getting the natural light. We booked our next cruise while onboard and opted for a porthole view room so we would still have natural light.

We have cruised in cat 8, 10, 4, 8, 10, 10, 4, 10, 8 and will be in a 5 next cruise. We were upgraded to the first 4, and got the next with a KSF offer. The next cruise is one of the glitches where the price was insanely low opening day and that is the only reason we have the verandah. We spend 15 days on the EBPC repo in a 10. I prefer the layout of the 10s because the bed is at the end of the room and you have a double steamer trunk with twice the space for clothes. With the 4 of us, that is important to me! Personally, I would save the money and use it to cover excursions and get some souveniers from the trip. We don't spend much time in our room so we don't need a verandah.

Our first cruise was an ocean view stateroom. After that we had a verandah and never wanted to go back. Although we don't spend much time in the stateroom we do like being able to go out on our own verandah and enjoy the experience at anytime during the day or night.

The price difference Isent that much considering its probably a longer cruise, I would go with the outside room. Most people go on Alaskan cruises for the gorgeous views of ice and trees, etc. Having a room with a porthole or veranda will be especially helpful to view the scenery without having to fight the crowds on the upper decks.

Outside stateroom

We travel with two boys aged 3 & 5. The extra space of an outside room is nice and leaves a bit of room to play while we ready ourselves. Having the natural light is alway appreciated. We spend a little more time in our rooms being as the kids our still young and need a little "rest" time in the day or early to bed. The biggest reason we choose an outside is the layout. It puts our bed closest to the washroom and door so when we're up later than the kids or one of us decided to head out for a show we are not disrupting the kids while moving about the room.

Good luck on your decision! Either way you'll have a fabulous time!

You didn't say anything about Alaska, but if this is the case, I would definitely go with the inside room. We spent most of our time on decks 4 & 10, which were never crowded. We were able to see much more that way because we could easily move from one side of the ship to the other when someone would spot a whale or other wildlife. Everyone was helpful in sharing when they did see something so others could enjoy it as well. We would have missed out on a tremendous amount if we had stayed on a verandah IMO.

Also, the actual size of the cat 10 up to cat 5 is the same.

Thanks!! We will be on the Wonder cruising to Cozumel and Castaway. It is 5 nights I believe? Long enough to get a taste, but i am sure it will feel too short!

We were booked in an inside stateroom on deck 1. I was convinced that was perfect. Then I saw a picture of the room with a verandah and thought wow! I think I would really like walking into that room every day. So I booked a secret verandah room in cat 07a. I am happy. We have a little one and will spend more time in our room than if she were a few years older. I love the half wall, half verandah so we can get some shade too.

Thank you for your help!! I could have risked asking to upgrade but I can't stop planning!!

$100 per night for a verandah? "Worth it" is always a personal decision, but that's more than I'd pay. As noted, there are plenty of areas of the ship where you can enjoy the ocean breezes with relatively few other guests around. While I've enjoyed our balcony when it was available at a "deal" price or pixie dust, there are other things I'd rather do with the money.

A cat 10 is a NICE room--double steamer trunk is a big plus.

we are on wonder Cozumel and its DH and I and 2 small kids. We got an inside as we know we will be on the go so much of the day. The savings was worth it to us. We have an RV and have crammed 8ppl into it so 4 in a cabin will be NBD for us. We have a Cat 10 also.

Thanks everyone!! I looked at both prices and it is 390 to upgrade. I may be crazy but I think it is going to be worth it! We spend naps in the room and reading out on the little porch seems like heaven to me. I don't get quiet alone time otherwise. When we are out during the day, we will be busy having fun! When I look at the room pics there just seems to be such a difference when you have real light. I may get off the boat and say I wasted my money on a room with a view, But that will be a lesson learned for the next cruise.

Thank you all for your input. I appreciate it!!
