"Girls" sizes vs. "Junior" sizes - Update Post #34
Yesterday, my brother was saying that his ex-wife hasn't bought any new clothing for their daughter since September and last week, the poor kid was sent to the principal's office because her clothes were "inappropriate" (as in too small for her growing body). He's already tapped out, since he has advanced the ex all child support until March.
My daughter has several junior-size pieces that she was going to take to Goodwill. I was thinking of sending them to my niece. It's been a while since my own princess wore a "girl's" size and my niece says she wears a girls' size 12. She's turning 13, weighs about 100 lbs. and is 5'2" tall. I guessing, but I'm not totally sure, that it would be close to a junior size 3 for shorts, jeans and tops? And would that also be a junior "small" or would it be an X-small? I know that junior sizes are normally meant for girls in the range of 5'5" but my own princess is pushing 23 years old and she never reached that height. She's (maybe) 5' 3.5" Any help figuring out what sizes would fit my niece? I have clothes that range in size from Junior 3 to 7 but I don't want to waste money shipping clothes to her that won't fit right now.

When I drink I find its easier to watch my children because I see all 3 of them double, so all 6 of them of them take all my attention

I think a 3 would be too big. My dd was a 0, X-small, when she was that size. Of course it really depends on who makes the clothes because one's 3 could be equivalent to one's 0. I would send her what you have, if it fits great and if its too big she'll have something for when she needs it again.

Not sure if this is much help to you, but I am 5"4" and weigh 103#. I wear a range of juniors sizes depending on the manufacturer. I fit into anything from a 2-5 in juniors sizes. A size small shirt fits me fine, but I prefer a medium for the extra length (long back waist length).
Sounds as if the smaller sizes would be fine for her at this time. |

My DD switched from Girls to Jrs when she was 13- at the time, she was about 5'1" and 100lbs. She fit into XS tops and size "1 short" jeans at Aeropostale. The main difference between girls and juniors is that juniors are a bit more "curvy"- fitted in the waist, with roomier hip/bottom. Girls tend to be very straight up and down- waist as large as hips/rear end.
A girl that has started to "bloom" just a bit and is at least 5' and close to 100lbs should be able to fit juniors sizes. I think a 3 might be too big, though- a 1 would probably be a better fit. Maybe send her a few pieces to test for fit before shipping everything. |

My DD is 5'5" and weighs about 115 lbs. She wears between a 3 and a 5, depending on the store.
This girl will definitely be in the smallest of junior sizes.

My daughter is 5'3' and 16 years old. I am not about to say her weight online because she would murder me.
In any case, she sometimes wears girl's 16 and sometimes wears a junior 1. I think a 3 might be too big. I'm not sure if that helps. |

Depending on how she's shaped, a three won't necessarily be too big (if she carries her weight in her stomach and thighs)... but if she's just a beanpole, a three will be way too big. I'd send them to her anyway, though, because chances are she'll grow into them quickly.

another vote to send them all
she will grow into them if they don't fit now I"m @135 & I wear anything from a size 5 to 9 or even an 11 - it really depends on who makes them 7 to 9 is common for me - once I had a 9 tight & 7 lose

Some of those 3's will probably fit her. DD13 is 5'2" and 100 lbs. She wears 0-3 depending on the store and brand.

There is no way that poor child is wearing a 12. My daughter is about 5'3", 85 pounds and she can sometimes wear a 16 kids, but most of her stuff is Jr's. Areopostal she wears a small or medium top and a 1 in pants. She is 12.5 (and not developed yet). I would say if she's 100 pounds she might be able to wear the 3's. Personally I'd err on the side of just in case and send them to her. If they are too big she can put them away for later. The tops she could layer if they are too big. We get the Areo tanks and she wears them under all her shirts.

I think some of the clothes would fit your niece. My dd12 is 5'2", 82 lbs. and pretty thin. She wears a kids 12/14 or jr. size 0 or 1 or xsmall and most of the good/delicate stuff is never put in the dryer. Sounds like your niece is a little bigger. Also, have the clothes been dried in the dryer so that they are a little smaller?

My DD is 4'10" and only 68 pounds. She wears a 12 or 14 slim, and a girl's large, but loves wearing the Jr smalls for the styles. They are a bit big, but she layers everything over long tanks, and it looks great. Send what you have, and keep an eye out on the clearance racks for great deals. That's actually a great size to be for sales since you can grab great deals in the girl's dept, and also in the Junior's.
