Is There Still a 'Second Security' at MCO for Canadian Travellers?
I remember this in the past and think a friend experienced it last January (2012).
After landing in Orlando they had to claim their bags, go through a 2nd security and then put their bags back on a conveyer belt. The bags were then taken by ME to their resort. Does this still happen when flying direct from Toronto? I'm helping a friend who is flying next month and she's finding conflicting information. Has anyone flown direct from Toronto to MCO recently? If so, did you see your bags at all in the Orlando airport or were they delivered directly from the plane to your resort room? Thanks! |

As far as I know, customs checks are done at Toronto so they won't have to go through it at MCO - I'm pretty sure my sister didn't in October

We have flown directly from Winnipeg many times and never gone through security upon arriving in Orlando.

Just a thought--could the OP's friend have experienced a heightened level of security at the airport due to a security alert?

We've never had a second security check when we've flown out of Toronto, but we did encounter this scenario once when we flew in from Heathrow. Even though we had precleared customs and gone through security in London. I can't imagine what kind of contraband they thought would magically appear over the Atlantic. Maybe they were trying to nail illicit duty free- all those Cuban cigars being smuggled in??

It all just depends on where your flying from. If you clear customs in the departure airport then there is no need to clear it again at MCO.

In all my trips to MCO, never had to do a second security check. There was one case in YYC some time ago though where a large number of people were being randomly selected for a second "intense" screening BEFORE boarding the plane. It didn't seem to matter where they were flying to however.
Regarding bags to the resort, depends if you are flying with a designated carrier and have signed up for Disney's Magical Express (and remembered to put the special tags on your bags). If not all of the above, then your bags will be on the carousel at MCO (and not Cindy's one either LOL! ;-) |

We've flown from YYZ to MCO an number of times and never had to go through a second security check. Disembark the plane head for the shuttle to the terminal and grabbed our bags
Remember if you are signed up for ME make sure your yellow tags are on the luggage and you will see them in your room in hopefully a few hours after you arrive.

We encountered this once a few years back, we had to take our luggage off a carousel and place on another belt for magical express. We did have to go through another security check, shoes off and the whole thing. This was the only time, usually we clear at YYZ.
I think this was one of those times when there was a higher alert in the US. I remember hearing announcements over the PA about the higher alerts. |

Only time of day matters; if you arrive (or have to reclear customs) after 10 PM then the bags, yellow tagged or not, all go to the carousels. If you did not get the yellow tags in time to use, (if you arrived before 10 PM)you can still go directly to the Magical Express area and the CMs there will arrange to send your bags to your resort for you. Same for any airline arriving in Orlando. Designated (or "participating") carrier refers only to checking bags at your resort before boarding the DME bus going home and is for intra-US flights only. Having bags go with you on the DME bus works for all carriers including the designated ones.
