How Far to Universal Studios from WDW

We're staying at The Art of Animation at WDW next January and want to go to Universal one day to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Is it easy to get a taxi at the resort or do I have to arrange a car? How far is it between these two places. Thanks for your help!

They are very close to each other as in at most 10 mins from each other!

No way! It is much further than that and Orlando traffic on I-4 is really bad.

It will take you at least 30 minutes to get from WDW to US/IoA. If traffic is bad it could take longer. Actually, I just did a quick search on Googlemaps...it is 17.2 miles between them and the estimated time is 26 minutes. Again, it will be longer with traffic...and there is *always* traffic.

You can get a taxi at the resort. There are usually several waiting. If there are none available one can be called for you. Just ask at the front desk.

I'm thinking about 12 miles and ~20 minutes. http://goo.gl/maps/fOQLF

We just did this two weeks ago. Definitely count on 20-30 minutes depending on what time you travel.

As a local who works on property. It will take between 20 to 30 unless it's rush hour then don't touch I-4

I agree that it will take much longer than 10 minutes. And since taxis charge you for standing in traffic it may be better to get a car service or other transportation.

Traffic can get so backed up on I4, we almost always avoid it when we are there several times a year. We stay off property and have our own car. There is a back way to get there, up Turkey Lake road. That may be faster, I would get a cab driver that knows what I am talking about and see if that is a better way. We take it for the peace of mind, for me there is nothing worse than sitting in gridlock on a road that is designed to be an expressway.

Takes you 10' to get to I-4 from any of the resorts. Then it takes you at least 10' driving without traffic n I-4, and then it takes you another 10' to get to the gate.

Traffic? Forgetting. I-4 gets crazy during rush hour.

Thanks for all your input and research! Sounds as bad as our rush hour traffic here in the Los Angeles area! We're not in a big hurry to be there when the gates open, so hopefully, we'll miss some of the traffic.

We stayed at AOA in October.. Fantastic! We go to WDW and Universal every year and we always take the back road between the two. I will do my best in describing it, but I just know the way and not 100% sure what the roads are. When you leave AOA head towards downtown Disney and follow that road out of WDW. It ends at a stop light in Lake Buena Vista which I believe is 536. Turn left. Then turn right onto Palm Parkway. Follow this road all the way to the back entrance to Universal Studios. It turns into Turkey Lake Road and you will see a sign that directs you to Universal Studios. I would tell the cab driver you do NOT want to take I-4 but you want to go the Palm Parkway/Turkey Lake road back way. He should know what you are talking about.. Oh! And you will LOVE the Wizzarding World!

Thanks so much for the actual backroad directions. I cut and pasted this in my Disney Tips document and I will tell the cab driver!

I don't know if they still do it, but a one day ticket used to be available including transport to and from universal from Disney property for basically the same price as the one day ticket - has to be bought in advance though.
