So we are planning a trip to WDW in jan of 2015 with my family as well as my sisters family. My sisters family is on a budget, and she has expressed concern over staying at WDW the week of the marathon.

How long after the marathon is over does the price for rooms drop?

We were there this January. The room rate at the GF dropped Sunday night, the day of the marathon. The Thursday, Friday and Saturday room rates were about $60 higher (per night). We did use a room-only discount for all of our nights there.
