Currency Exchange

This is my first time traveling outside the country in nearly a decade (sad, I know) and a decade ago, I didn't exactly have a grasp on world economics.

For Cartegena and Mexico, will we need to bring local currency? Do they also take American? Is there a Currency Exchange on the ship?

Just a comment on car rentals. Dollar apparently has a Cruise Terminal location. I was just able to change our round trip rental from Miami International to one way Miami International to the cruise terminal for exactly the same rate. I don't think it's a huge deal, but I think it will make life much easier on Embarkation day especially at the same rate!

I just went to the Dollar web site and the address for the port location is the same address as the airport. But, there is a shuttle to the port!

Most tourist places take American money. But if you plan on buying some souvenirs away from downtown maybe bring some local currency. Be careful in some places especially Mexico and in some restaurants. (Especially if using a credit card) Sometimes they hike the prices if you use USD. If you have some local currency left, you can use it for tips for the guides on your tour or keep it for a souvenir

Ah, well. Best laid plans etc etc. At least they'll know I need a ride now. Thanks for the clarification.

I agree with KItcat... Having friends in both countries and travelled consistently the last few decades, local currency will bring the best deal to the tourist. They will accept US currency, but usually at a different rate.

I know I should be more "worldly", but I just don't think I'll ever get off the ship! Until they kick me off
Then the money exchange is just one less thing I have to worry about. Plus we are pretty cheap, and wouldn't buy anything anyhow!

And you get to enjoy the ship while the rest of us are off! My Dad is staying on in two ports... Maybe you will run into him.

My Dad is staying on the ship in Columbia and Cabo San Lucas. If anyone is staying on the ship and would like a little company he would be thrilled. He has asked me several times what he is going to do while we are gone. Let me know if you are interested in hanging around with him a little.

Pretty sure my parents will be staying on the ship as well (dad-77, mom-72) We will all have to keep an eye out for your dad

He's 84, turning 85 soon... He's always up for new friends and good company. We will be looking out for you too!

The closer we get to the cruise, the more I agree with you!

Not me! Way too many places I haven't seen. I'm looking forward to exploring.

Heck I am on the verge of canceling my wave runner on Castaway. A friend of mine did it and gave it a big thumbs down. This cruise is all about relaxing and eating and drinking for me. Exploring is not relaxing.
