Neighbor's birthday

A few girls that I am friends with celebrate each other's birthday by going to lunch or dinner. I feel like I should get a present for each person, but don't know them well enough really to buy a thoughful gift, which brings me to my other problem. My husband thinks it is silly to buy gifts for grown women that I don't know that well. He just doesn't get it. Any ideas for an inexpensive, but thoughtful gift? Or would you even get a gift for them? HELP!! Don't want to hurt feelings, but seriously, I wouldn't care if they got me anything. Lunch out is treat enough!

What do the other women do? If they do not give gifts, then you should not either, at least at the lunch. Otherwise, the others who did not give gifts may feel awkward.
