If you ever wanted to know how much you ACTUALLY walk at WDW....

If you ever wanted to know how much you ACTUALLY walk at WDW, this'll give you a good idea. Here are our calculations from a couple of years ago from our 6-day early-October vacation, 4 of those days being full park days, the other two were travel and/or non-park days. Lace up those walking shoes, folks!

Total steps: 130,998
Average steps per day: 21,833

Total miles walked: 41.3
Average miles per day: 6.9

Total calories burned from walking: 5,934
Average calories burned per day from walking: 989

Total hours spent walking in the parks: 22.0
Average hours spent walking per day: 3.7

Wow, that is interesting!

I have never looked into the other stats but I actually remembered to take a pedometer with this last trip because we do rope drop, morning EMH and evening EMH and often go the full day.

I wore it the first week (we were there 18 nights so I thought a week was enough) and we averaged between 35,000 and had [a high of ] 47,000 steps per day

Thank you for taking the time to share that info

I've seen some claims of people walking upwards of 15-20 miles per day, but yours seems reasonable to me. Any idea how many steps/miles an active person takes on a normal day?

MK from RD to 10:30 at night, 12.5 miles
DHD RD to 7, 8.2 miles
Epcot~ EMH RD 8-8 11.6 miles
AK EMH RD to 3pm 6.3 miles

Yeah are feet were all tired, but so worth it

We leave in 72 days (not that I'm counting or anything!) and I can't wait to see what my Fitbit says at the end of each day. Thanks for sharing your stats!

DH and I have worn pedometers the last 3 times we've gone. We stay at SOG so we walk to the Poly or TTC a lot to catch a bus or monorail. We average about 9 miles per day and we're usually there for 5 days. If I walked that much everyday, I'd be at my goal weight. As it is, we eat so much at WDW that it balances out.

I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor, I was back to pondering my mortality.

We took a pedometer on our last couple of trips. We were amazed just how far we walked. We found that our mileage increased significantly once they started enforcing FP return times. Maybe that is the big plan overall and why they don't have a Walle attraction yet?

Some of you really walk a lot! I used the step counter on my phone in my purse, which might not be all that accurate, but we averaged around 16,000 steps per day.

What's discouraging is that all that walking the OP did burned just 1,000 calories per day lol.

LOL, well the 1000 calories is on top of what we normally burn just by being alive, which is (for us) around 2100, so a total of 3100 calories for that day burned. We're also fairly fit, so it would be more calories expended for someone that wasn't as fit, does that make sense?

Oh, I know--but I figure I eat that much extra in a Mickey bar, some popcorn and dessert every night lol. This explains why I never lose weight at Disney! In fact, I gained 5 pounds in 6 days there two weeks ago. Of course, I know it's water weight--more sodium than I usually eat and I retain fluid from sodium, and my poor overused muscles also hold fluid until they repair themselves.

It get discouraging sometimes to walk 8 miles, burn an additional 1,000 calories per day and still gain 5 pounds in 6 days- even temporarily!

I know how much I walked last time because I wear a fitbit.

Six days and total was a bit over 55 miles. That is an average of 9.16 per day.

I also know how much I'll be walking next time. Zero. I rented a scooter.
