DCL terms for kids to learn...

We are a homeschooling family and are doing a pre-cruise unit to learn about the ship (Wonder) & ports of call. One of our activities will include learning vocabulary related to the ship. I have a list I've made of basic cruise ship terms (bow, stern, crew, steward, etc.) but, since we've never been on a Disney cruise, I'm not sure what 'special' Disney terminology (such as Cast Member) might be useful to include as well. I am hoping some of you DCL vets could help us out!

Thanks!

Muster station, lifeboat, guest services, atrium, tender, gangway

Some are useful in an emergency and others are just helpful for navigating the ship or identifying a "familiar" location in case you get turned around.

Have fun!

Sounds like a fun project.

I'm glad you called the Wonder a ship instead of a boat -- that's a good start.

captain
cruise director
KTTW (key to the world room key card)
ship tender (ferry boat from ship to shore)
Navigator (nightly newsletter)
port hole
verandah
wave phone
Castaway Cay (pronounced key) assuminig you're going there
Which chipmunk is Chip, and which one is Dale (Chip has a dark nose, like a chocolate chip, while Dale's nose is red.)

Great additions, thanks! These are the types I'm looking for...those that are Disney specific! Thanks!

I know it's already been mentioned but I used port starboard aft. etc. a lot so be sure to put those on there because they are extremely important

Another way to tell Chip and Dale apart is they always stand in the same order, it's always Chip then Dale. That's what we were just told by their handler.

Maybe your kids could research the different ships, learn their sizes, speed, etc. if you wanted to be cruel you could make them learn the different stateroom categories lol

This is a great thread. Thanks for posting. I'm copying these lists for vocabulary this week. We'll use some for spelling too!

Not sure of your kids ages.

We're doing some reading comprehensions this morning and I found one about a cruise! It has some good vocabulary in it, but to be honest haven't looked at it very closely yet! Just found it and then saw this post by coincidence and thought i'd share
http://www.abcteach.com/free/c/carib...ise_part_1.pdf

I'm not usually a 'worksheet' advocate, but this was fun considering we're leaving in a few weeks! :-)
