If I get the 11-11:30 PAT, we still wait with? a crowd to board?

I'm choosing my PAT for the first time this Thursday and I want to be on the ship as early as possible. But even if I get the 11 time slot I still have to wait till around noon to board--right? The advantage of getting there at 11 would be getting an early number---right?

Will the terminal be packed, it's the Dream? Does everyone crowd by the entrance like they do for airplane boarding even when it's not their turn?

With an 11:00-11:30 window you will have a lower boarding number. Boarding doesn't start until 11:45, so you won't be boarding until after that time.

I would think that the terminal will be pretty crowded (port opening time is 11:00, everyone wants to be first on - dispite whatever their PAT is). Yes, I would guess that people crowd around trying to be there early.

Personally, I'd probably select a PAT of 11:00-11:30, but actually arrive about 12:00. You'll still get the lower boarding number, and chances are your number will have already been called at that point. So you could board as soon as you checkin.

Your boarding number is tied to your PAT. The earlier the PAT, the lower the number should be. Once boarding starts, usually around 11:45 or so, it moves pretty quickly.

Once boarding starts, there is some crowding where the line to enter the Mickey Ears is. I've never seen it impede the process though. You might have to worm your way through a little bit.

Yes, you'll have a bit of a wait and there will be a bit of a crowd. The terminal officially opens at 11; in reality it opens any time they are ready between 10:30 and 11. Boarding usually starts at 11:45 but I've seen it as early as 11:30.

Your boarding number is already assigned. It won't change whether you arrive at 10:30 or 11:30. If you really arrive at 11, you should have time to check in and be ready to board as soon as boarding starts, probably with little waiting. If you arrive at 10:30....well, you chose to come earlier and wait longer

DCL tries to control the crowds at the intake area with announcements asking people to not come up till their number is called, that they won't get in till their number is called, etc. Still, you know people. They don't prevent us from getting thru though. An if a simple "excuse me" doesn't work, I've been known to suggest that they get out of the way of people that are SUPPOSED to be there.

If I have the 11 PAT and get there a little after with Disney transportation, will I get a lower boarding number still? Or just the boarding number based on the time I come? My flight Lands at 1030 so probably will not be at the port till noon. I am hoping we can board shortly after getting there

Your boarding number is tied to your PAT you selected online. You'll get the same number whatever time you actually checkin.

Great! What time does open boarding start? Because I assume at that time it will not matter about our boarding number.

PAT and rental car return?

I have an 11:00 PAT. I will drop off wife, DD and luggage at the port, then need to return the rental car. Hopefully, I will get the shuttle back to port by 11:30.

Can my wife do all paperwork at the port, or does she need to wait until I return?

Open Boarding is announced when the number being announced for boarding catches up with the number being issued at checkin. Not a specific time, but generally in the 12:30-12:45 area.

Just because I'm curious, I was under the impression that your boarding number was tied to your PAT, but wasn't officially assigned until you checked in. Meaning if two groups with the same PAT, 11:00-11:30 check in, one at 11:00 and one at 11:30, the one that got there at 11:00 would get the lower boarding number.
Is that not correct? Is it already established and they do it by the order you checked in online then??

I understand that if you have a PAT of 1:30 and you show up at 11:00, your boarding number will go more along with the 1:30 time and you'll be waiting, but didn't think the actual boarding number was already pre-established before check in.

Hope that made sense!! Thanks for the help!

Yes, the actual number is assigned before you checkin. They have X number of boarding passengers for each boarding number. As to how they determine which guests within a PAT window get which boarding number, no clue.

It's possible for 3 different parties with a PAT of 11:00-11:30 to have 3 different boarding numbers.

On our most recent cruise, DH & I had a PAT of 12:00-12:30. The other 2 rooms we were linked with had 12:30-1:00. DH & I waited to checkin when the others arrived, about 12:45. DH & I had boarding #6, the others had #9. So, I'd guess the 12:00-12:30 window had at least 3 numbers assigned to it.

Every one in the party has to be there to check in now. ( they take your picture for your KTTW card)

Followup to the other person's car rental question -

I'm thinking I would drop my family off 1/2 hour before PAT, then I would drop off the rental car, and shuttle back... I assume they'll let my family go inside the building to wait (even if it's before their PAT time) - is that right???
