Thoughts on Nassau

Hi! We are thinking about booking the 3 night cruise to the Bahamas on the dream in November. We are doing 8 days of WDW and Universal Studios prior to the cruise and no one wants to cut that short for a longer cruise. I have read several negative posts about Nassau and am worried that it may not be worth it. We went to Castaway Cay on the Magic on the 8 night out of Galveston and I absolutely loved it.
There are 11 of us going but only 4 of us did the Magic cruise to CC. I don't want to spend all that money and only have 1 port stop we all enjoy. We were thinking about doing the Blue Lagoon dolphin swim since I have heard so many negative things about Atlantis. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Amy

That it isn't worth the money and that it is looking run down. My DH also heard from a guy at work that his travel agent even says the same thing. I also just read on here that there may be some safety issues right around the port area. This makes me very sad. I have always dreamed of going to the Atlantis.

I will admit that I went to Atlantis 7 years ago, but it was AMAZING when I went. I cannot imagine it getting run down that much in so few years. There were also no safety issues at Atlantis. The issues are when people wander off on their own. Im going back in January for a b2b and cant wait to go back there!

No need to spend money on excursions. We took a cab to Cabbage beach for the day. It cost $4 per person each way. The beach was beautiful, and if you walk down the beach away from the crowds, it is very secluded. We loved it! You can check it out on Tripadvisor.

We went on a 4 day which included Nassau and CC. My daughter did the dolphin swim at Blue Lagoon and we really liked it. Our table mates did a botanical garden type tour in Nassau and like it and the pictures looked very nice.

I don't know why Nassau gets such a bad rap. The shopping is not great but I don't go on cruises for the shopping, I go for the beaches. BL beach day is pretty good (no waves because you are in a lagoon). Many people go to hotels and use the pools for the day.

We did the Glass Bottom Boat tour on our first trip to Nassau and we really liked it. DD was 16 months at the time so we were limited to what we could do. It was a nice boat ride and the guide gave a really nice tour. We also thought it was worth the price. We went to Atlantis the time after that and hated it.

Since it's your first time to Nassau, you have a lot of options. Blue Lagoon is beautiful. It takes a bit to get there, but it's quiet and peaceful. I never did the dolphin excursion, just the beach day.

I've been to Atlantis twice. My only beef with it is that for what you pay, there is not much you can do. If you book the beach day, you are only allowed to go to the beach, aquarium, casino and shops. No pool or waterslides. In the end, I paid over 100 dollars to sit on a beach and see some fish. It's very overpriced for what you get.

Members of our family did one of the boat trip excursions with snorkling and said it was great.

We went to Atlantis last May and loved it! Maybe it's just me but after spending all that time running around Disney before the cruise getting off the ship for excursions would be last on my agenda! Relax would be first priority.

We did Atlantis in August 2011 and loved it. You can now do the water park, which is what we did. However, we booked a room at the Comfort Suites Paradise Island (gets you full access) instead of through Disney and it saved us a ton of money. You have to get your own transportation ($4-$5/person cab fare each way) and buy lunch, but it still was a big savings for us. If you're interested in this, let me know, and I'll give you more detail.

No thoughts other than just don't get off the ship. I know they have to stop there for contractual issues, but really? It's not a destination. I can go to downtown Kansas City and see the same down and out people begging for money.

For our May cruise, we are stopping in Nassau. We booked day passes at the British Colonial Hilton. It is $60/adult, $30/child, and free for kuds under 5. For the price, you get a $40 (adult) or $15 (child) food and beverage voucher at their patio grill and bar. Private beach, gorgeous pool, and it is walking distance from the pier. We cannot wait!

I have enjoyed each and every of my 12 or so visits to Nassau. When doing an excursion through the cruise line, I always go with the snorkeling excursion (typically the Caribbean Queen rather than the catamaran). But we have also just walked around on our own. My favorite spot to walk to is Fort Fincastle and Queens Staircase, which is about a mile from the pier. You can also walk to Junkanoo Beach, which is about a 15 minute walk.

There is quite a bit to do in Nassau!
