Can an adult sleep on Aulani fold down bed?

Hey all,

I'm not sure about the size of the fold down bed and if there's a weight limit? We have ressies for a one bedroom in July, I need to put either my 16 yr old DS, 180 lbs, 5'10' which seems a little big maybe for it - or my DSis who is about 5'6", 150 llbs. Is the bed too small for an adult size?

1 king-size bed in master bedroom
1 queen-size sleeper sofa in living room
1 pull-down bunk-size bed in living room

I took a tour of a 1BR while in Aulani and I'd say, no. IMO neither would fit on that pull down bed. You could always call the resort and ask. But since they describe it as a bunk bed I would think that means child size, under 5'. Not sure about a weight limit.

My 5'11" 180lbish 20 year old son slept on that bed for 8 days last July (his two sisters took the couch). But he is not a complainer and would sleep where ever I put him...

I just asked and he said that the fold down bed was better than sleeping on an air mattress (which he has done at WDW) and definitely better than the floor

-- We are planning several trips over the next couple years. He looked at the schedule and with his job and class schedule, he said the only one he would try to take with us was the return trip to Hawaii and yes that will be his bed again.

--- so I think the answer is that it is doable, but it would depend on how much the person on the bed goes with the flow .... or not.

I could have slept on the murphy bed if I had to - and without trouble and I'm approx the same height and weight as your Dsis. DH said he could have slept on it but I don't think it would have been comfortable and I know his feet would have been hanging off the end - he is 6'.

I am so glad to hear that, I had pretty much written off being able to use the fold down bed - my son is pretty much the same as yours, so maybe it won't be a problem. He slept on the sofa on DCL, although he's grown some, maybe that's about the same. I am feeling a bit better about this

Thanks, good to hear that too. I was getting the impression that it was kid sized so very happy to hear an adult size will fit - yay!

One of these days I'll have to take a tape measure along and do an actual measurement at either VGC or Aulani whenever we go back. I believe it to be a standard twin size - or at worst a tiny bit smaller. I ended up getting a similar bed twice while visiting friends and family in Norway last year. No complaints and heck - I was in Norway!

My daughter slept 5 nights in the bed, she is 5'5", probably about 125pounds. She got by, but it wasn't comfortable. The biggest problem is that the bed is kind of enclosed on 3 sides. On a normal bed you can move your arm and it just hangs over the edge, but on this bed there's no where to go except on the one side.

She doesn't have a problem with small spaces but said it was very claustrophobic feeling, kind of like sleeping in a drawer.

My son is about 6 feet and there's no way he would have been able to sleep on the bed unless he rolled into a ball on his side.

We got by for the days we were there, but I think I would consider an air mattress in the future if the sofa sleeper wasn't available.

Thanks. I guess we'll see when we get there if either my son or my sister think they can sleep there. If not, we'll have a car and we can get an air mattress somewhere. I wish I'd paid more attention when we saw the model.

A standard twin wouldn't be bad, as long as there isn't some kind of weight limit. I'm having visions of the whole thing coming down if my son sleeps on it. It must be pretty sturdy but he is about 180.

We stayed in a one bedroom, I don't think 5 10 or bigger would fit. We let it down just to see what it looked like, and it seemed smaller than a twin size bed.

FYI there is a much better alternative to an air mattress that is sold at our local Costcos. Assuming you aren't taking it home (same as an air mattress), it might be too pricey at $70. But it is WAY more comfortable. It's a three-fold futon style mattress with a case and carrying strap. They usually have them but sometimes they disappear.

It's not like it is hanging from the wall unit - it does rest on the floor. If there is a weight limit I'd guess it's pretty high - at least higher than anyone that could fit even semi-comfortably on it.

Why not just send an e-mail to member satisfaction asking them for the dimensions and weight limit on the bed. Then post it here.

I know the fold down bed at POR is 5.5' by 2.5' because I just measured it about a week ago.
