Common Meter (aka I'm Easily Amused)

Yesterday, I discovered Common Meter, which many poems are written in, as well as the theme song to Gilligans Island. So ... you can sing many poems and other song lyrics using the melody to Gilligans Island. Such as:

Amazing Grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I was lost
But now I'm found
Was blind but now I see
(was blind but now I see)

Just putting it out there if you want to try it. Apparently, Emily Dickinson's poem "Death" fits perfectly.

As I said, I'm easily amused!

Neat!

You can also sing The Odyssey in Greek to the tune of Stars and Stripes Forever. Classics majors are great at cocktail parties.

I'd love to hear someone do this.

Easily amused also!
I am awful at doing a tune with different words. As a preschool teacher, we had several songs for seasons, holidays, shapes, etc etc, silly things, and they were all to the tune of classic nursery songs like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Mary had a little lamb, etc. I had an awful time keeping the tune but using different words!

I'm going to spend the rest of the night trying to sing Amazing Grace to Gilligan's Island.
