Yes- we did the same time period in 2011 and it was pretty good for crowds. My kids don't go back to school until after Labor Day. We're actually boarding Freedom of the Seas after WDW and then heading back to NY and will still be back for the first day of school.

Sorry if that was confusing- Freedom is docking at Pt Canaveral round trip. So we will go to the Caribbean and then when we get back to FL, we're driving back home.

Kimmar - DH and I are cruising the Norwegian Gem out of NYC to Canada and New England in early October. Your *Cruise to Nowhere* was on the Gem, wasn't it? From which NYC port did you sail?

....there's only one port from NYC; it's around 50th Street [or thereabouts] in Manhattan, on the Hudson River. The other port is actually Bayonne, which is ACROSS the river, on the New Jersey side!

Yes the good side of the river ..Right....

Royal doesn't leave from NYC anymore do they? What about the ol Brooklyn Yard, Or is that just strictly Princess cruise line??

Royal is going out of Bayonne, as well as Celebrity. My parents were on Explorer of the Seas during Hurricane Sandy this past fall. The main NYC port is around 50th St, and you will find most Carnival/Norwegian departures there. The Brooklyn port is used by Princess and I believe Cunard.

I know Gem sails out of NYC, not NJ

So you think around 50th Street?

The mention of Bayonne brings back some great memories! Many years ago when I worked in Paramus, my boss was affectionately known as "Benji from Bayonne"!!!
