please! this show and the judges try to steer the audience vote every week. who are they kidding!

I feel bad for Lazaro, he is not a bad singer, but his confidence is shot and it is because of the judges panel and Jimmy.
It's also the songs. Some contestants start to really show their weakness when theme weeks start and they have to perform songs they don't know very well.

Ugh. Aside from getting stuck with a narrower range of songs, I'm getting sick of them recycling the same tired themes year after year.

I keep wondering why they don't do something like Sadie Hawkins week - make the girls sing a song made famous by a guy, and the guys sing a song made famous by a girl. Even the decade themes were better. Something different AND not forcing a single genre on the group.

This and it seems to have to ballads every week. They ain't going to sing that many ballads in their careers. I say give a year and make them pick from that year but from any genre so you know they are as an artist afterwards.

Okay, the ONLY good thing about having strep throat on my birthday was spending two days in bed & finally getting caught up on AI.

There were SO MANY things I wanted to comment on over here as I watched, but I was about a month behind!!!

At least I'm caught up now.

Just going to jump right in...
I hope I don't repeat stuff you guys have already said...

I think this is the very reason many of the winners are never heard from after the tour. While I may LOVE how they sing a Beatles song or a Bon Jovi song or a Dolly Parton song, that tells me NOTHING of what they will do after the show.

No I think you're exactly right. P2 is the first bit of success they have had in a while as far as winners go, but what you got on the show with him you got afterwards. I also I think label had a lot to do with it as well.

I think there have been many contestants who've been able to make older songs sound current. But, you have to be more flexible with the available songs. A lot of Beatles stuff - while great tunes - was really boy band type stuff for their time. Eliminating those songs, you're not left with much and what you are left with is something you just don't want to redo in comparison to the original.

But, we saw Daughtry sound totally current doing Walk The Line during 50's week. But the key there was having a HUGE selection of songs from which to choose.

Here's another vibe I've gotten watching pretty much the whole season in two days...
Seem to me like Jimmy is giving the guys bad advice??? Telling them to pull back & telling the girls to go full out! Paul was one of my favorites until Jimmy ruined him.

If they are so obviously pushing for a girl winner, why not keep it separate and have two winners. One guy and one girl?

And, Candace is my favorite. Love her!!!

Smokey Robinson is the mentor this week.

Lazaro is blaming his poor performance on internet critiques...

INteresting, I don't know what this will mean for the season but Ole Publishing visited with the idols today. Monty Powell visited a songwriter on the team and is one of Keith's writing partners. This could be interesting sign of things to come.
