The Official "We Have No Idea What We're Doing Yet!" PTR
Oh-kay! So. I keep telling myself I'm going to do a PTR, I'm one of those shy long-time lurkers on quite a few of them--old and new!--but every time, I never quite manage to get it all set up. And then I swear I'll do a trip report, at the very least, when we get home with fifty bazillion photos and fun stories...and the weeks pass, and that doesn't get done, either.
Well, this time, it's going to. Really. It is. I'm going for the gold here, there will be a pre-trip report AND a trip report. Honestly.
(Come on, Life, don't make a liar out of me!)
So, here we go.
Our youngest's 1st birthday is coming up in January. We're fairly local annual passholders, so Disney is kind of Our Thing when it comes to birthdays. There's been quite the variety, ranging from something as simple as stopping by T-Rex on the way home from a day at Epcot, to a special visit to BBB and lunch at Akershus, and everything in between.
The one thing we haven't done, being from the area, is stay at one of the resorts. My family stayed at the All Star a few times when I was growing up, and my husband's family did a couple of the resorts when he was growing up, but we've yet to take our own kids to one. And they really, really want to.
So, we're going to. No idea where, no idea what else is in store just yet, but watch this space--plans are being made!
So, without further ado...the cast, from youngest to oldest:
Baby A: Currently 8.5 months old. Sweetest, most snuggly baby in the universe. Our last baby, and the only boy of the bunch, he was born a week and a half overdue and that's pretty much been his take on life--take it easy and go with the flow, no rush on anything. Mellow, smiley, he's just perfectly content no matter what's going on, as long as someone familiar is nearby. This trip will be for his 1st birthday in January 2014. Current favorite ride: A tie between Dumbo and The Magic Carpets at Magic Kingdom.
Miss L: Our fierce little Tinkerbell-obsessed girl, our #3 girl. She's 3.5 years old, and never stops laughing. All you have to do is raise an eyebrow at her and she starts cracking up. Current favorite loves are Tinkerbell and Periwinkle, Nemo, Mickey Mouse, but shh...don't tell, but they all come in second place, behind My Little Pony. That's an obsession that knows no limits and has been going strong since she was about fifteen months old. L has been in speech therapy since she was nineteen months old, and was initially suspected of having a motor planning disorder called Childhood Apraxia of Speech, but as other developmental delays have begun appearing, she's been evaluated for physical therapy and occupational therapy and it's looking more and more like global apraxia--her brain knows exactly what she wants to do, or say, but somewhere between, the connection is lost. She works incredibly hard all week, every week, with her various therapies and we're incredibly lucky to have such a fun, happy little girl with everything she deals with. Current favorite ride: The Seas with Nemo over at Epcot.
Miss E: Our second, the stubborn and sensitive sweetheart, Miss E. Nine years old next month, she's our little wildcard in every imaginable way; she can go from seemingly shy to ridiculously outgoing in five seconds flat, she'll run on the cross country team in the mornings and do two ballet classes that same afternoon, she's completely unpredictable and it's one of the thousands, millions of things we love about our E. Her favorite princess has always been Belle, from the time she was old enough to express it, and she's been in love with Monsters, Inc. for about as long. She has an on again, off again love for Wall-E, but the Monsters will always win out over the poor little robot. Current favorite ride: A tie between Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom, and Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios.
Miss C: And now we've come to our oldest. Our comic relief, Miss C. She just turned ten in August, and sometimes we just can't believe the things that come out of her mouth. From innocently asking what day the 4th of July is on, to wearing two different shoes in true Punky Brewster style, life would not be nearly as fun without this girl in it. A die-hard fashionista, her favorite princess has always been Aurora, even though she doesn't care for the movie, merely because she loves her dress. She was the first to speak up when we were offered choices of characters for our new RFID cards this past spring, because she'd been desperate for Minnie for years. Current favorite ride: It's another tie, this time between Splash Mountain and Test Track.
Mel: Oh boy. Here we go. I can talk a mile a minute about everyone else, but now I'm all when it's my turn. Let's see. Mel. That's me! Freshly turned 32 just two weeks ago, I'm a combination of a stay-at-home mom/freelance web designer that doesn't really do much web designing these days with driving kids to and from school, ballet, tumbling, cross country, and various therapy appointments. I am incredibly, ridiculously shy, but not so much an introvert, which is maybe not the best combination of personality traits. Growing up, my family did a Disney vacation pretty much every other year, up until we moved to Florida, and then we had annual passes and visited about once a month until I graduated high school and moved out. I'm a bookworm, I take waaaay too many pictures (might want to close out this PTR and not bother with the actual TR if that bothers you, fair warning!), and I have a tendency to babble. My favorite princess has always been Belle, but I dunno, Rapunzel's a pretty close second for me these days. My all time favorite Disney movie, however, is Lady and the Tramp. Current favorite ride: Strong tie between Buzz Lightyear and Toy Story Mania, I'd ride both all day if given the chance.
Dan: My partner in crime, I couldn't dream of having anyone better to tour The World with. At 37, he's chronologically the oldest, but as he told his dad very recently, "I went and got older, but I still haven't figured out that whole 'growing up' thing!" His family also did frequent Disney vacations while he was growing up, and it's actually his father who presents our girls with their passes once a year--the gift that keeps on giving, as it gives him lots and lots of weekends to spend having fun with his grandchildren. Dan is a computer nerd and does various sorts of programming and developing for a living, but a lot of the time, it ends up looking like this: We've been together for fourteen years, married for ten this past April, and I think we make a pretty great team. He's a fan of Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo as well. Current favorite ride: Soarin' and Toy Story Mania.
If you made it through all of this, holy cow, you must be bored. Thanks for reading through and getting to know our crazy little family, and stay tuned--as plans start forming and details arise, I'll be sure to start updating!
