October 2013 - how crowded?

It is official - we are going to WDW the week of October 13th. So how crowded will it be during that time? Will we have long waits for rides or will ADRs be hard to get? Last time we went during SWW so I know it will not be THAT crowded but just wondering how it will be.

ADR's will probably be hard to get if you don't book at the 180+10 window. That's usually during free dining (i think). You should have relatively lower crowds (30 minutes or less for headliners).

We are going to be there that week as well (12-19th). looking at history, that week seems to be blocked out from free dining as it's Columbus day week. And some schools have fall break. We've never been at that time, I think crowds will be steady but not crazy. Touring plans has crowds at mostly 5's for the week.

If we can would it be better to go the week of October 6th instead since the following week is Columbus week? Do schools get out for that?

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like it's crowded at a 3 these days. Not sure if the population of the parks is just much higher than it used to be or I am less tolerant of it with age.

Anyway, here are the predictions for the dates in question.

Thanks so much. If we can change to the week before I think I will do that. Looks like it may be less crowded.

Great question. I've been wondering myself since im in the planning stages for a trip during that time. I was thinking of going AFTER columbus day (cdn thanksgiving), but looking at crowd levels, i might be better off going the week before!

We went over Columbus weekend last year, stayed until Tuesday. I thought the parks were crazy crowded...not at all what the crowd calendars were speculating. We did have ADR's and glad we did. Epcot was especially crowded with F&W. I love Epcot but completely avoided it on our last trip it was just too crowded...even SE had a line wrapped around the base. I use to go all the time in October and don't remember it being that bad. It was also very hot last year. That may not be the case this year but be prepared just in case.

Columbus Day weekend is usually crowded but the crowd thins out as the week goes on. By Wednesday or Thursday there are pretty low crowds. That said I think the weekend before would be preferred if you can.

Columbus Day weekend expect THICK crowds. I was very unpleasantly surprised last year. Also keep in mind that many school systems now have fall breaks of 1-2 weeks in October. It is no longer a *slow* season.

We have gone for the last 10 Octobers.
Each year was more crowded than the year before. It is no longer slow season, as evidenced by Disney's own pricing structure. Add to that the extremely popular (with locals as well) Food & Wine Festival in Epcot and it is busy. It is a very popular time with DVC owners as well. Certainly not Christmas or July 4th busy, but not slow.
Most of October does not offer free dining, since they fill the rooms without it.
We went that exact week last year. It was pretty crowded over the holiday weekend, and got a little better as the week went on.
It probably doesn't make a huge difference which week you go. The crowded holiday weekend will either be at the end of your trip the earlier week, or at the beginning of your week the later week.
Have Fun.
