Checking Email

unfortunately, I need to check my email for work while on my Fantasy cruise. Fortunately, my company is paying the Internet charges.

Does an iPad connect as well as a computer, or should I lug my laptop along?

DH's Ipad connected just fine. Love how it fit into our carry-on instead of hauling the lap top. Yes, we're spoiled.

Good question. DH is the CEO of his company and at that time we could still be in the middle of the deal he's starting now. So not only did I buy travel insurance where you can cancel for work reasons, we'll need to have his computer or iPad with us. Such is life. I learned long ago not to complain about a little work being done on the trips the work pays for.

Just keep in mind that it is a S-L-O-W connection onboard so you may have trouble if emails have large attachments (even if you don't plan to open the attachment but it will come in with the message). If you have difficult you can find WiFi in port that tends to be smoother - just ask CMs onboard.

Enjoy your cruise!

Another reason to opt for the iPad is that it will fit in the room safe.

I'm guessing that FaceTime probably doesn't work, does it? We are taking a cruise without our kids in the fall, and I was wondering if I pay for Internet, would my kids be able to FaceTime me or would email be the best way to communicate? Thanks!

FaceTime, Skype...none of that stuff really works onboard. You could probably do it in port, though, if you wanted to check-in with them that way.

Thanks for the fast reply! I didn't think it would work but thought I'd ask. We will just call them when we're in port and keep it short.

DCL blocks the Facetime/Skype apps...too much bandwidth. Probably wouldn't work well anyway with the satellite signal.

Plus it is just so much easier than a laptop....
