40-50 lb. turkey??? I think peter fan is right and i've heard it before it is emu.

I can assure you that it's turkey. I've received ingredient lists from the Special Diets department due to allergies. It would be illegal for them to state in the ingredients that it's one type of meat when it's in fact another. It is turkey.

Gag

We tried turkey (or Emu's really don´t know) legs on our first trip to WDW as man and wife with DH... every body seems so excited about it, and they look kind'a of fun.
BIG, HUGE MISTAKE!!!
We were at Epcot waiting for illuminations... end up sitting still trying to get pass the nausea felling after trying to eat and trashing the birdie legs

This. I tried one at Blizzard Beach one day and I really wanted to like it, but the veins and tendons were gross, IMO.

I've never tried one. But, during the buffet after Pirate Night on the Disney cruise ships, you can have all the turkey legs you want!

Dh and I shared one for dinner on the last trip. We weren't impressed. DH really wanted to try it so...He even said it wasn't something he needed to do again.

I am still wondering what the fascination is....
It's just one of those Disney things - Dole Whips, turkey legs, etc, etc. Mob mentality -- i.e. buying just because you're at Disney..

At one time, I ate a turkey leg every trip. Then I read the fat and sodium content and I don't eat them anymore.

I fall in to the category of "I just had to try it" I love food and really love meat. Much to my (and my wife's) suprise, I hated it. It was tough, hard to get the meat away from all the tendons, and messy. I have had one and have no desire for another.

I think this is a food that really depends on how well cooked the one you get is too, it's very easy to have a bad experience if you've got a leg that was done a couple hours before and has just been sitting on a warming tray drying out as opposed to fresh.

On a semi-related note, has anyone indulged in the Shank du jour pork over at Gaston's tavern? Similar in look, but we liked it considerably more than the turkey leg.

And miles to go before I sleep:

I was wondering the exact same thing. Going in June and never tried either. I lover both turkey and ham so wondering if it might be a better bet to go for the Gastons pork shank. Im definitely one of those people who feels a need to at least try one of them on this trip even if I share it with my hubby.

I LOVE smoked meat, and smoke my own ribs, brisket, pork butts, turkeys, sausage, etc... but I just can't eat turkey legs! The tendons and such make it a terrible cut of meat fit only to feed to my dogs, and only then after stripping it from the bone. Every time I walk down that sidewalk towards Tower of Terror, I think "the real terror is all these people walking around eating turkey legs!" It's like walking through "Night of the Living Dead" or "Zombieland" without the people walking a zombie walk. Yee-uck!

I'm not a huge fan, but I don't dislike them either. My mother LOVES them and its a must for hear each trip. She especially loves it now that you can package it as a QS meal.
