I agree.

It does sound like they think you are leaving the ship for good. Not "rejoining" it at the next port.
Last October, I met someone on a Transatlantic cruise (non-DCL) who was disembarking early. He disembarked in Mallorca instead of Barcelona because he had an apartment there. That way he was able to save the time and cost of flying from Barcelona to Mallorca. He had to settle his bill bedore disembarking.

I know that you can do this on other cruise lines, but DCL is really not use to things like that as they are not really big in the Europe market.
I've met people who have done this on other cruise lines. They don't "disembark." Rather, they are "in transit" while they spend a night or two off the ship. They advised the front desk in advance so the ship's security can account for them for the all aboard. They only took overnight bags with them.
Comments in red.

I think the only thing that makes La Spezia different is that you have two consecutive stops in the same country and that is why you can't board there.

Still doesn't make sense. Naples in in Italy too... So if this was the case you couldn't embark or disembark in Rome either.

I'm not sure whether Disney understood my question or not. This is what I said in my email. I sent it directly to a Disney rep who had helped me earlier with determining by OBC. It took her about a week to respond.

Dear XXXX,

One of the ports for our June 1, 2013 Mediterranean cruise is Civitavecchia (Rome).

We are considering overnighting in Rome and catching up with the ship in Naples. My understanding is that I am allowed to do this since the cruise itself is not originating in the United States.

Can you confirm whether Disney allows this? Is there a fee of any kind to do this?

Thanks,
XXXX

Reading your question and their response... I don't think they got it. They don't even address getting back on the ship etc...

Maybe a call?

You know, I don't read it the way you guys do.

I think that she simply listed ALL of their policies regarding getting on and off the ship for the Med cruise.

To me the rules are clear.

(1) You can get off at any port, except for La Spezia
(2) Before you get off (whether to transit or to debark), settle your account and notify DCL
(3) If you debark permanently, take your luggage
(4) If you do not return to Barcelona, you have to go through immigration at your "last" port, and notify DCL so that they know to set up this process for you

I don't see that.... they seem to say if you get off at all take your luggage. which is why I think this is the "if you aren't getting back on the ship" response.

I think that's why the issue is there with La Spezia. They probably don't have immigation for you there. Now that might still be an issue if you only want to skip that one night. (Although I am really curious as to what happens when someone misses a ship there... and it has to happen. I saw a miss at Nassau and you would think that would be hard LOL!)

I would guess it would be different from cruise to cruise depending on when the ship clears port authority. 2 yrs ago we were off before 9:00, and there were others off before us, but we had raced to Barcelona the night before for a medical emergency, and we were already docked early in the morning.

Has anyone used any company other than Barcelona Day Tours? We'd like a short city tour with drop off at the airport and they're really over priced. Looking for feedback on other transfer/tour companies. Thanks!

I did and I used it to email 2 other companies for quotes. Barcelona Day Tours is so overpriced, but I'll admit it, they're so highly recommended that I almost don't trust other companies to stay with our luggage for 2 hours while we roam around and eat before our flight.

We have a late flight out and we want pick up/drop off plus some transportation to certain spots. We'd need 2 taxis, so it's "cheaper" to just book a private van for 2 hours.

When I was looking for airport/port transfers I was also recommended Barcelona Airport Transfers. They were higher than BDT.

Hi. We booked a boat tour with Angeleno's boat tours. We sail past the 5 villages, swim and eat. It lasts about 5 hours.
