dvc clothing

Does anyone know if they have stopped selling dvc clothing? I heard they have, and that is a shame if they did.

In June we bought OKW and SSR tee shirts in the resort gift shops. I'm pretty sure they had some other merchandise; hats, etc.

I was able to order a DVC tshirt and luggage tags through WDW Merchandise Mail Order in July, so it can be done by mail. I will say that they sent us a different shirt than what we requested, but I think they don't make the other one anymore. I hope that they are still selling stuff. They were in January when we were at WL.

I highly doubt Disney will completely stop producing DVC specific merchandise and clothing since we have proven that we all like to spend more money!

That being said, I know over the past 18 months or so, Disney in general had cut production of some merchandise and souvenirs with the recession and fewer sales overall at the parks and resorts. I inquired about this last Halloween during our BLT stay and found that information from more than one CM. We definitely had a harder time tracking down specific MNSSHP shirts in particular sizes..

They have a nice DVC mens polo shirt (among other things) at the small gift shop in Kidani. It's tan and much nicer than the one sold at the Boardwalk.

I heard that they were stopping resort-specific DVC merchandise. So although I could still buy a DVC shirt at BCV, it would be the same shirt as is sold at BWV and all the others. Nothing that specifically says-DVC at BCV.

that's what i was told by a few CMs in may.
since we only want BWV specific merchandise, that is really going to cut down in our spending (i bought a bunch of BWV water bottles, large shot glasses, a hoodie, and a towel in may - i already have everything else they offer. alas, the cool BWV soapdishes were all gone, but are still available on ebay - in case mine breaks)

i know we are not alone: after many, many trips, generic DVC or WDW merchandise holds no interest for us - it's resort specific or nothing

There isn't a great deal of DVC logo merchandise available. They must not think we would purchase enough of it to make it financial worth their while to do so or there would be more stuff.

That's true..and for the most part it has been the case for 4-5 years now. I have a shirt from 2004 which has the DVC mountain logo and Saratoga Springs embroidered on it. But since then it's rare that you will find anything with both DVC AND a resort name.

They make DVC merchandise and they make resort-specific merchandise but the combo has all but disappeared. Has to do with the limited market for such items. DVC merchandise can be sold at all DVC resorts. Resort-specific merchandise is of interest to both DVC members and cash guests. But the DVC/resort combo has an extremely small market.

I saw two shirts at the Beach Club this past weekend. I also saw a T-Shirt at the Contemporary that said Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort and had the monorail on it. There were a few other things (non-clothing) but not much resort specific.

I was reading the log post about the Beach Club review, http://www.disunplugged.com/2010/09/...h-club-resort/ , and I think this observation sums up resort shopping:

Quote:
The ‘merchandise’ part of this location is downright depressing, as it embodies all that is wrong with Disney’s current retail strategy. That strategy can be summed up in a few words – ’sell the same crap everywhere’. There is very little here to purchase that is unique to the resort. Everything is pretty much the same generic Disney crap that can be found in every theme park and at the World of Disney. What is most upsetting is the fact that Disney has done away with all resort specific logo merchandise. It’s no longer possible to purchase a polo shirt, t-shirt or coffee mug with the logo of your favorite resort emblazoned upon it. I know it’s probably stupid, but there are very few decisions that Disney corporate has made lately that upset me more than this. If you want to know why they’re doing it – I’ll tell you it in a nutshell – it’s cheaper to produce in bulk than it is to produce for a specific location. Instead of purchasing 10,000 crappy generic WDW t-shirts, they can produce 15,000 and save money. By contrast, producing 5,000 ‘resort specific’ shirts costs more. Never mind the fact that they charge upwards of $20 for a shirt that’s worth a quarter of the price – but that’s a rant better left for the show.
