Wednesday at 2 pm EST I submitted a request to a well known and often used travel agency to have my June cruise transferred to them. I submitted the form as requested and haven't had a response. Am I expecting too much for a 24 hr turnaround?

UPDATE: The TA emailed me back just a little bit ago and apologized for the delay. All is well. I'm sure they were just busy with it being the first of the year.

Maybe it is me too, but I expect quicker responses from a TA as well. I contacted two last week and they booth took more than 24 hours to get back with me just to let me know they would be contacting me. Then it took another 24 hours to hear from them after that. While all that was going on I was seeing rates for the cruise I wanted go up and down. I didn't want to miss out so I just called Disney directly and booked.

Perhaps only because it is a transfer? I know that is thin, but .....
and good luck.

Contact them again and say you want a B2B in 12502 on Fantasy in summer. I'll bet they respond faster.

It depends on both the agency and the agent.

At most agencies, I suspect there are agents that respond to e-mails and/or phone calls very quickly and those that check their e-mail less frequently. It would be hard for the agency to mandate a policy on this because some days are going to be more busy than others, etc.

The other issue is how long it took the agency to assign the matter to an agent, and then that agent's response time.

What I'm used to seeing--if I send something to the general agency address, I get a "same day" or "next morning" response. If I send something to a specific agent, within a few hours I either have a response or I get an "out of office" message right away. In that situation, I can e-mail another agent or call the agency number.

Some agencies handle everything thru your specifically assigned agent, others have an agent "on call" to handle new things

Guess what I'm saying is that it is an internal matter based on how the agency does business. BUT, when all is said and done, I'd expect a response within 24 hours on a weekday. Even if the response is "thank you for your inquiry. We are working on it and will be back with you later today," that's a response and a commitment.

I have tried to contact what is propbably the same un-named agency on three seperate occasions.

Each time it was longer than 2 days from the point I sent my email

I will not be trying to give them any more of my business

the only reason I tried was after reading all of the reviews and even getting the name of a specific agent

I am sure someone else would actually want my business and not act like they are doing me a favor

I think 24 hours is a reasonable amount of time.

When I submitted a request to transfer my reservation to a travel agency they told me it would take 2-3 business days for Disney to complete the transfer. After 3 days I emailed them back and within an hour or two had an email from my agent.

When communicating via email with my agent he will always respond to me within 24 hours. It usually only takes an hour ow two though.

They should have gotten back with a quote within an hour or so! I hope you're dealing with someone who talks to you on the phone, just give them a quick phone call. Even if they can reassure you they are working and don't have it yet, at least a sympathetic voice can go a long way toward calming nerves. For us, planning a major event like a cruise is still somewhat stressful, and it's good to know the TA is on top of things. Just give them a quick call and I bet all will be okay.

The form was just to give them access to look at my reservation to see what OBC they could offer. Then I would have to do a final approval for the transfer to actually go through.

I'm only doing this for the OBC which will probably only be $200. I don't think I'll need their assistance with anything since I can still do my own excursions. It's just annoying since its now been 48 hrs. I'll email them again.

There is a difference between the time it takes to get the work done and the time it takes to confirm receipt of the e-mail. It only takes a minute to send a "We have your request and we're working on it." notice.

Glad OP got a response!

That was what bothered me with the two TAs that I contacted. It took over 24 hours before I got an email saying "we have your request and we're working on it." And then more than 24 hours again before I received my quote. In that time I saw rates going up and down so I instead of waiting I booked directly with Disney.
