Buying Wine in Ports of Call & Onboard

I've started a small wine collection and would like to purchase a bottle while onboard and in Nassau while there in September. I'm assuming the bottle I purchase onboard is only available to me as I exit the ship on the last day and the bottle purchased in Nassau I could choose to drink onboard if I wanted to.

Couple questions:
1. I'm a Canadian Citizen but am travelling within the US on flights then driving across the border back to Canada. Shouldn't be any issue with having bottles of wine purchased onboard and in Nassau?
2. Anyone have any experience with putting these bottles in checked luggage on the airplane? Just wondering how I'm going to get it back home since I don't think I'll be able to carry it on the plane!

Many thanks!

No you won't be able to carry it on.

Lots of folks swear by these type of things
http://www.magellans.com/magellan-s-...r-2-pack-29621

They are basically cushioned bottle holders that are suppose to seal up so that even if the bottle breaks you won't wind up with wine all over your suit case.

I use one of them and the following "back up" method

1. Put wine in the bottle armor (or something like it, my local wine shop sells another brand)
2. Put that in one of those laundry bags you find in the closet
3. If availalbe, wrap all of that in plastic (dry cleaning bags work well for this)
4. Wrap that bundle in something I won't miss if it's ruined
5. Place the bundle in the MIDDLE of the suitcase with clothing under, on top and at each end.
6. Make sure suitcase is full so there's not a lot of shifting around
7. Close it, cross fingers.

So far so good

As to taking it back to Canada, it would depend on the limits for import into Canada.

I can bring back 1.5L of wine when returning to Canada. So I guess I can get two bottles! One onboard and one in Nassau!

Here's my next question! Any recommendations on where to buy a bottle of wine in Nassau?
