For those that follow on Facebook, Universal announced the 2013 Mardi Gras lineup...I will be skipping it this year for the first time ever. Not very happy with the choices...

The line up is on the website now.

I'm not very excited this year...I haven't heard of quite a few of the artists.

I will attend Pat Benetar, Steve Miller and Matchbox 20 for sure.

The others...not so much.

Hopefully they will announce the two remaining acts soon and those artists will be more my style.

Bands Currently on Top 40 Radio
Demi Lovato
Phillip Phillips
Boys Like Girls (well, were last year)
Austin Mahone (well, he will be by March I suspect)

80s "Oldies" Acts (I was born in 1971, I can call them that)
Pat Benetar
Steve Miller

"Hot" Adult Contemporary
Matchbox 20
Lifehouse

Hip-Hop/"Urban"
Pitbull
Sean Kingston
Trey Songz

Country
Montgomery Gentry

Sorry everyone, but that's about as eclectic a mix as I can imagine--all popular, but five different genres of music well represented, perhaps skewing a tad young. This isn't supposed to be Flower & Garden. I don't see how anyone could be disappointed in this.

Sorry...its a nice mix like you said but I don't know who most of these people are...but that's me. It's disappointing to me but obviously you like the line up and that's fine. I won't be going to most of the shows.

I've heard of a few of them but I don't like hip/hop or country. Maybe I'll watch some YouTube and change my mind.

At least Disney tries to appeal to all age groups with their lineups. I'm in my 50's and there's not anyone here that appeals to me. Was looking forward to maybe attending for the first time but guess not. I'll be heading over to Epcot's F&G fest instead.

I think universal did a great job appealing to all of the age groups. I have a younger sister that never knows any of the artist that are the flower and garden show at EPCOT. For our family it works out perfectly. I'm the young adult, so pitbull is perfect. My mom would see pat and my younger sisternwould see demi. She had to choose between demi and Austin. Those two are in her age range. I honestly feel that universal is the only park that tries to include everyone......

Here's the lineup with dates, and the side acts:

Code:
2013 MARDI GRAS TALENT LINE-UP
Date Headliners New Orleans Bands
Saturday, February 9 Lifehouse John Lisi & Delta Funk!
Saturday, February 16 Steve Miller Band The Dirty Bourbon River Show
Sunday, February 17 Boys Like Girls The Dirty Bourbon River Show
Saturday, February 23 Trey Songz Colin Lake
Saturday, March 2 Demi Lovato Beth McKee
Saturday, March 9 Montgomery Gentry Gravy
Friday, March 15 Sean Kingston Lil Brian and the Zydeco Travelers
Saturday, March 16 Matchbox Twenty Lil Brian and the Zydeco Travelers
Friday, March 22 Austin Mahone The Soul Project NOLA
Saturday, March 23 Phillip Phillips The Soul Project NOLA
Saturday, March 30 Pat Benatar & Big Al & the Heavyweights
                        Neil Giraldo
Saturday, April 6 Kool & The Gang Mississippi Rail Company
Saturday, April 13 Pitbull The Rockin’ Jake Band
Saturday, April 20 All American Rejects Daddy Mack Blues Band
Some of those side bands are pretty good authentic New Orleans style bands too. I have no idea where they will play, in the past they have played right where the big crane is for Transformers.

Most of the bands named are geared for the teens to 30's age range. As some of you have mentioned many are greatly unknown. I guess conceivably Pat Benatar and Steve Miller could appeal to some older fans. I'm not some old fogey stuck in the 60's there are lots of modern groups I listen to although none of the ones mentioned here.I'm just saying that Florida is home to many, many retirees with annual passes that need to be represented as well. Hopefully those TBD dates will fill that void. There are still lots of bands and artists from the 60's and 70's performing.

I believe I've heard of all but one of the acts... maybe some of you are just turning into old fogies

None of them particularly excite me, although I think I'll go see Phillip Phillips, Pitbull, Pat Benetar and Steve Miller.

I think they did a pretty good job appealing to all ages.. the line-up so far spans five decades of music. I love the older, classic bands but it's the popular artists of today that are going to be bringing in the crowds.

If anyone watched women's (non-rhythmic) gymnastics, or saw an ad for it, during the Olympics this summer, they heard Philip Phillips...

I'll be in the area for Steve Miller Band...hmm, interesting.

And we'll be there for Demi Lovato and dd wants to go for sure. It's not someone she would necessarily buy a ticket to see, but she'd like to go since we'll be there and she likes her voice.
I was kind of hoping it was someone she had no interest in seeing because now I have to go too

I am not a big crowds kind of person, but I am even less of a "Send my 15 year old off in a big crowd in an unfamiliar place" person so I'll deal.

LOL, the Flower & Garden lineup is directed straight at Baby Boomers. Most of the artists are too old to even qualify as "classic rock" anymore.

Nothing wrong with that, but to pretend Universal's line-up is not more inclusive--with artists from different genres who still actually get radio airplay--is just crazy.
