Would you move to Arizona?

After living in the Midwest and East coast all my life, we might have a chance to move and live in Arizona, around Phoenix. I have heard allot of negative points, I think I can understand the heat, is it that bad? Is it better than freezing your butt off? No school age kids, (1) college age only. I am looking for unbiased opinions, I know some people have political views but please try to put that aside. Thank you

I see no way I would ever move to Arizona. I can explain a few reasons, but not all due to board rules:

I like snow.
I like grass.
I like living in the Eastern time zone.
I like living close to family.
I hate scorpions.

I visited Arizona as a kid/teen, but haven't been there since. Off the cuff, I wouldn't want to live there. I like green grass and tall green trees. The environment just doesn't appeal to me. I'm an East Coast girl at heart.

I have lived in a lot of places includng:

Boulder, CO
small mountain town in Colorado
rural Wyoming
medium sized town in Indiana
Detroit suburb
Small town in Spain
Small city in Germany
and rural New Hampshire

The ONLY place I have ever lived where I did not like the area, had trouble making friends, etc was Phoenix. Could have just been bad luck, but it was really a very unhappy year for us--and overall I am very good at finding positives in any places to live and very good at being adaptable.

No. I used to travel there with some regularity on business. I don't find that sort of climate appealing at all. I like green, and I don't like that much heat.

And I know you don't want political comments, but the political climate of any region plays into its liveability, IMO.

No. The weather is awful...hot, hot, and more hot. Did I mention hot? And dry. You won't have grass and you will be HOT. Also, I don't care for the community values in some parts of Arizona.

YES! But then again I was born and raised there. I'm living in the midwest now and I find it miserable. People aren't friendly here, like they are back there, IMO. As soon as I finish this part of school, we're headed back, Lord willing.

It's not awful, but then again you aren't a desert dweller. I'd take that ANY DAY over wind, snow and especially ICE. YUCK!

No, I have no desire to move to Arizona. Ever.

I like grass. And trees. And green space.

I lived there for a couple of years. I have lived worse places, namely South Carolina. Lots of people seem to really love it and several of our friends retired from the Air Force there. I wasn't ever a huge fan, but I think that it's all a matter of taste.

pros: you can swim a lot, my hair was great there (no frizz!), lots of shopping, restaurants, etc, sports, cultural events

cons: traffic, heat, crime (depending on where you live)

I lived in the desert for 14 years. I know all about it, thankyouverymuch.

I did move there, and I loved it. I lived there for a few years before moving back to the Southeast to be closer to ill family members, and I still miss it. We lived in Tucson and are strongly considering moving back once our son has graduated high school. It is hot there, though we did actually get snow one Easter while we lived there. And there are mountains there that get more significant amounts of snow. I loved the weather and the wildlife there and found the people to be very friendly.

I do love the winters there. I have family in AZ and have visited but only in the winter months. I'd have to try it in the summer before I could commit to moving. For sure I'd be a "snow bird" in retirement if my finances allow it.

I don't mind Chicago winters but I wouldn't really miss them, either.
