Nassau Beach Suggestions

Been to Nassau a number of times, never been to a public or hotel beach. What is your recommendation? Contacted the Sheraton and their price is now $99 pp and the Hilton's is $69. Any other suggestions? Pool, towels, restaurant access, and bathroom preferable.

Are you sure about the $99 at the Sheraton? That's a BIG jump from the $25 we've been paying for years. $99 was the rate for a day room when I asked but it was just $25 for the access pass to the beach (half that for kids under 16); you don't have to have a day room, only if you want access to one. Perhaps someone gave you incorrect info; I'm not seeing a rate hike mentioned on Cruise Critic. If you go to the Ports of Call (Bahamas) board on CC, there is a poster named Scubagirl who lives down there and answers all questions and provides info. She's very helpful.

I would take the #10 jitney over to the Sheraton ($1.25 each), enjoy a few hours there then take the same jitney back and have them stop at The Fish Fry so you can eat lunch. Authentic, local food that costs WAY less than the food at the Sheraton. You can easily walk the mile or so back to the ship from there.

Okay, I spoke too soon. Just saw on Cruise Critic (posted January 4) that someone just returned from there and the Sheraton price has increased to $30, half of that for kids up to age 12 (although this seems to depend on who is working at the front desk!).

I believe you were mistakenly quoted the rate for the day room.

I just read this on the Sheraton's Facebook page.

"We're happy to hear you'd like to experience Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort & Casino for a day!

Day passes are available upon arrival based on availability. The pass is $99 (tax included) and allows access to the pool and beach experience. Please note that the pass is valid from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the same day.

If you would like to book the pass in advance, simply call our Special Offers Reservations line at (866) 716-8106 and let them know you're interested in booking a day pass for Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort & Casino.

Kind regards,
Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort & Casino"

And, can you take a jitney with a gigantic stroller?

If you go to their website, under "Hotel Features - FAQ", it specifically states the $99 is for an all access day pass with a room, while the beach/pool access only is the lower rate.

I don't know about the gigantic stroller on the jitney. If it folds up, I don't see why it would be a problem; just tip the drivers extra and I bet they'll make it work.

From Sheraton's FAQ's:
What is the price of the day pass, what all does it includes, can it be purchased in advance?
You can purchase a Day Pass with a room included for two people for $99 inclusive. This gives you a room for the day and access to
the beach and pool. If you do not want a room, the day pass for just a pass to the beach/pool is $25 per person for the day. This includes towels, non motorized water sports to include snorkeling equipment, kayaks, water bikes, and rafts.
• Transportation from the cruise ship to the hotel and cost to get there?
Taxi or City Bus #10. Taxi would be about $15 and City Bus is $1.25 per person (headed to Cable Beach).

Omigosh, that is a relief! So... Is the Fish Fry on the way there? And, would you recommend Sheraton over the Hilton?

And, can someone explain the jitney to me? What does it look like, and how do I get on/in one?

I notice you've posted this question at Cruise Critic also and while you don't have any responses yet, if you look through the threads on that board, you'll find all your answers plus more. Today alone, I've posted info regarding the Fish Fry here at DISboards; look in the other Nassau threads, I highly recommend the Fish Fry. You can have the jitney drop you off there on the way back from Cable Beach (Sheraton), then walk back to the ship or take a taxi or the bus again. I've never been to the Hilton.

The jitneys are buses (white if I remember correctly) and they are labeled with their number. I never remember the name of the street for the #10, I just walk there. You can ask a local once you get outside the port, they are friendly and helpful; the guys at the port will just drive you nuts trying to sell you a tour. Here's a link to some info:

ilovetexas... I did actually do a search at both sites before posting this original thread. What I did find, was many dated posts and lots of conflicting information. Especially since I had just read the Sheraton's Facebook post a few days ago and saw the $99 day rate which was again - confusing.
And, it turns out, I have taken a jitney before just didn't know what it was called... and been to the Fish Fry! I just had a few questions. Sorry if I am wasting your time, if you don't wish to answer, just kindly skip over my thread.

Seriously?!?!?!

I have responded to your questions four times today, providing additional info each time and now you're being impolite? I was simply suggesting that you continue to do some more research since there is a wealth of info on Cruise Critic and it's obvious you have a lot of questions and are not getting any other answers here. I've noticed by going back through my other responses (in response to someone else's question) that my answers each contain different info (not contradictory) and I feel that reading as much as possible gives one the best opportunity for the most info. I OFTEN suggest to people that they post whatever question they post here on Cruise Critic as well in order to gain additional insight. Plus, I've been sitting in bed sick all day and figured I would forget to tell you something.

I did not say, nor did I imply, that you were wasting my time and I do not appreciate your remarks. I was simply trying to help.

Don't worry about it!
I, for one, truly appreciated everyone's help here. I'm sure many feel the same.
Hope you get well soon.

Sorry that I misunderstood, I very much appreciated your replies this is why I continued to ask questions, but your last answer made me feel criticized for doing so!

I have been researching and researching and researching for weeks... just recently booked my trip... it is one of my favourite hobbies - You can see I have participated in many discussions on this board and on Cruise Critic. Research is not an issue for me. I just figure if I have some very specific questions, why not talk to some people directly who have recent and relevant information.

So, thank you for the tips on researching the boards and your help on the issue at hand.
