You can't miss my DH. He's a big burly USMC redneck w/ a fanny pack and acting like a kid who can't wait for the next ride at WDW.

Hot Springs, AR - ???

Can anyone give me any info of the area of Hot Springs, AR?

DH and I are wanting to get away for a weekend this spring. We have never been there, and would like some info. I have requested info from their visitor's center.

TIA for all of your help.

I've been there quite a few times. What do you want to know? Do you have a hotel booked?

We booked a cabin about 20 miles away.

Besides the Bath Houses, what is there to do? We will arrive on a Friday night, spend all day Saturday there, then go home on Sunday.

What are some *must see / do* things?

What are some *don't bother to see / do* things.

And, BTW, I realize everything is very subjective.

First and foremost, whether you gamble or not, I would say go watch the horses race. 2013 Racing season starts 1/11/13-4/13/13

Garvan Woodland Gardens - always beautiful but 3/1-4/15/13 there is a Tulip Extravaganza of 121,000 tulips, daffodils, and then of thousands of hyacinths, hundreds of red, pink, and white azaleas, and thousands of dogwood blossoms.

Downtown Hotsprings -We like to walk around inside The Arlington Hotel and take in the historical architecture. It's really pretty. Then we go to floor 7 and go out the back door. You can hike up the mountain. You don't have to go the whole mile, but you can. The Mountain Tower has a nice view and has a bit of the history of the Springs. To eat Breakfast go to The Pancake Shop and make sure to go into the Savory Pantry, which is next door. I would recommend the Fordyce Museum and Visitor Center. It serves as both the visitor center for Hot Springs Village and as a museum of the original historical bathhouses. It was really pretty interesting to us.

I do like the spas. I've done the one at The Arlington. I would say it's not for everyone, but if you want to try it, I would take a swimsuit. The Spa at Embassy Suites is nice, but not really historical.

The Five Star Dinner Theater has been really good when we were there.

I've heard good things about the Magic Theater but haven't been there, yet.

The Gangster Museum is interesting, but definitely get coupons for it out of the visitor guide. It's a little overpriced but interesting to hear about the gangsters who hung out and hid in Hot Springs.

We spent the past 2 spring breaks at Lake Catherine state park. Our favorite place to visit in the area was Garvan Gardens - they have a website you can look at- amazing trails, flowers, a really beautiful place to visit. We also love going to mid america science museum in Hot Springs.

If it's the same magic show we saw a couple of years ago, it's well worth going to. It's in a small intimate store-front theater and the magician is very good and also an inspirational speaker. The baths are wonderful. Loved the tower and just walking around town. There was also a Mexican restaurant (of course, can't remember the name) that had a patio behind the restaurant on the second floor that had GREAT food and was reasonably priced.

When we go to Hot Springs for work conventions, we always go to Central Park Fusion. We always get the Boursin® filet mignon. It is so delicious! Be sure to save room for dessert too! You can make reservations at www.centralparkfusion.com.
