Alaska july 22

Anyone cruise this time if year in the past? If so, what was your wildlife spotting experience?

We cruised on the 7/26/11 cruise to Alaska out of Vancouver. The weather was beautiful. We saw many whales from decks 4 & 10 on sea days. In port the salmon will be running and they were huge! We saw seals playing in the water at one port. There were lots of bald eagles also.

We cruised the third week in July 2011 to Alaska. The weather was abnormally warm from what the "locals" said-we had one day in the 80s! So the weather was beautiful-we also encountered absolutely no rain (which again the locals said was not normal). We saw bears, fish, eagles, whales, and seals. We saw the bears, fish and eagles on excursions and the whales & seals at sea. We took the White Pass Railway excursion in Skagway (very interesting, beautiful & lots of picture taking opportunities-highly recommend this excursion), Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau (up close encounter with a glacier, lots of pictures, visitor's center was interesting-highly recommend this tour too), lumberjack show in Ketchikan (they did a great job & again wonderful pictures-this is where we saw lots of bald eagles!-highly recommend this excursion as well). Have a great time!

Where did you see the bears? Hoping for the same weather in 2013 but not expecting anything similar! Thank you for the input!

We saw bear fishing for salmon at Mendenhall Glacier. We saw a bear walking near the ship and one stop, we took a city tour for cheap and the guide brought us to where a mom and her cubs were playing. He pointed to the people paying a lot and them reminded us how much we paid and we were seeing the same show

The only bears we saw were at the top of Grouse Mountain in Vancouver, but they were very cute and we were able to watch them play for a long time in the sun that day. If you have time in Vancouver, that is one place I would go again. We also did the White Pass on our own, our car hooked up to the ones holding the DCL excursion guests and we paid kid rates for our 10 & 12 yo -- but would have paid twice as much with adult rates with DCL. We took the city bus to Mendenhall on our own and hiked to Nugget Falls near the base of the glacier. No animals were there that day.

I'd like to know what people's experiences were closer to the very beginning of June. I'm going June 3rd and would like to know the likelihood of seeing a bear, orcas, moose, etc. I know the salmon won't be running, but school begins in early August here in Florida--so that was a no-go.

We went June 14,2011. We saw whales and seals on our whale watching excursion. We also saw whales off the ship. We saw seals on ice floes and bald eagles at Tracy Arm. We did spend 3 days in Vancouver prior to the cruise. We drove to Whistler where we saw a lot of bears feeding by the sides of the road.

We saw bears fishing for salmon at Mendenhall and also along the creeks on the bus ride to Mendenhall.
