I sympathize!! Bundle up.

A few years ago, we lost all power for 5 days and were snowed in for 3 of it. Miserable!!
The house got down to 45.............we got a generator right after that!
And then moved to AZ

Hurricane Sandy survivor. No power heat or water for 10 days. No heat sucked. I feel your pain and hope you slept someplace warm. It took about 3 days for the real bone chilling cold to settle in.

Hoods are your friend and I did sleep with mittens, tucked my pants into my socks, basically was just an exposed nose at night.

I turned off the stove after 15 minutes.

Last night wasn't awful, I actually got warm at times. Like I mentioned before, I get very warm when I sleep, so I usually have a window open, and a fan on.

Today it isn't freezing cold in here. I think it helps the neighbors have heat on.

My parents had one. It provided warmth, but I remember siphoning kerosene from a gas can into the tank for the heater. :P

Also, my FiL had family living in his basement who had a kerosene heater. The went to fill their tank and the gas station had somehow put gas in the kerosene tank. When they went to light it... FIRE!

I hope you'll have a warm house soon!
Our central heating broke down three years ago between Christmas and New Year and the emergency plumbers had so much to do that we had to wait three days for an appointment, not funny. We were lucky as we have solar panels on the roof and those were sunny days, so we had warm water and we used the open fire downstairs for heating, but upstairs was cold.
It took all of ten minutes to repair the damage (just some circuit breaker issue).

Do not use a regular stove to heat your house!!!! The pp was talking about using a wood burning stove. Spend a few dollars and get a space heater.

Well I have heat! I came home from my moms to my apartment to change before work and came home to a guy in my apartment finishing up on fixing it! He came back after last night, and worked on it for about an hour before calling some backup. They had to replace everything in the heater except the blower unit.

Actually, the Consumer Product Safety Commisson issued a Safety Alert on Kerosene heaters

https://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5052.pdf

And here in California, they are illegal.

I use a kerosene heater in my home almost every day in the winter. I've gotten really really good at replacing wicks! I can do it in less than 3 minutes!
