No heat is no fun!
Had heat that was fine this morning, then came come tonight and I couldn't get warm! Generally this place heats up quick, and very nicely. Set the heat to 90 and was still wrapped up and cold.
Called after hours, he came out and tried a bunch, but it looks like it won't be fixed til Monday. It will be fine for sleeping since I like it cold, but I might be spending time at my moms. Trying to use the stove right now for heat!

If you have funds, it might be worth the $50 or so at Sears to pick up a space heater, at least for your living/family room.
We're in the Chicagoland area, and our upstairs master bedroom has no heat, except for a woodburning stove, and the space heater is wonderful in the winter. The stove seemed much more romantic when we were house shopping than it really is. Live and learn. Best wishes for a warm weekend....

Hoping you live somewhere south where it's usually warmer. I know it's no fun. Had no power and no heat for a week after Hurricane Sandy and that was beginning of November. Lots of layers, lots of blankets. And believe it or not, a hot shower, if you can stand to take your clothes off.
Turn on the hot water in the bathroom, let it get good and steamy and then hop in.

Kerosene heaters are very warm, some people are afraid of them but I've had different ones my whole life and never a problem, just read the directions and take care of it. The stove and oven are not safe do not fall asleep with them on!

You don't have a friend or family member you could stay with?

Oh! Callie, No fun at all!
I can't remember the last time it happened to me but I do remember coming home from a beach vacation in June to no A/C That really sucks in the South ! I think if it were me and I had to wait 3 days I'd go some place else too. Lucky your Mom is close. I'd use it as an excuse to go to a hotel or B&B! I love hotel stays

A couple years ago, I filled our tub with hot water and slept on the floor in the bathroom for a few nights until they fixed the furnace. The idea was to keep the pipes warm so we didn't burst one-which is a horrible, awful mess to be avoided at all costs. We used a heat blower in the kitchen to keep those pipes warm.

Hope it all works out for you.
Last night, Newark mayor Corey Booker received a tweet that there was an 80 year old grandma without heat. He went out, got a space heater and blanket, and drove to her house. I only recently started following his tweets. Even if you don't live in New Jersey, you might enjoy his tweets. He seems like a really energetic and caring guy. |

Callie-we're all thinking about you. Using your stove is extremely dangerous.

I would think a $20 electric space heater would be a better choice for a temporary need like this.. No need for fuel, and no worries about carbon monoxide.
