Walkie Talkies?

Going on a non-Disney cruise next year with my in-laws and am looking for a way to keep everyone in contact. Has anyone here used walkie talkies? Any recommendations on a good set?

Thanks!

We found them to be worthless several years ago. These were decent ($100 per handset) pieces. Lots of static, picking up transmissions from other guests, and sometimes not being able to hear our own stuff. Add that to the general nuissance of dragging them around, and we found it more efficient to use post it notes and leave phone messages on the stateroom phones (this can be done from your room or any house phone).

They have the free wave phones now for every stateroom, and those work just fine. You can text on them as well. We used those for our party of 14 people, and never had any issues keeping in touch. They also work on Castaway Cay.

The reason that walkie talkies dont work on any of the ships is all of the steel. The steel blocks the signal and in a lot of cases will distort the signal. Add to that there's a limited amount of radio frequencies and its not uncommon for more then 1 family to have the same frequency on a ship.

We used them on a cruise a couple of years ago and they were a huge help. No problems at all with interference or anything else. They weren't standard quality, though...DH got them, and if we'd had to pay full price they'd have cost over $300 and they had a huge number of frequencies, so we were easily able to switch around as needed.

Thanks for the help! Yeah, I wanted to do DCL...the Wave phones look so cool...but the ILs did not want to do Disney.

I think the post-it idea may work...or I may bring 2 marker boards for our doors to leave messages. That way, I could put a note on their door about our location.

A friend of mine has cruised other lines/ships that also have similar phones as the Wave Phones. Check your cruise line.
