I need Las Vegas and Grand Canyon help.....

I have not been on the community board in a while so I better start by saying hello.....

My hubby and I are taking my 68 year old Mom to Vegas on January 27 th. we are staying a week, then heading to the Grand Canyon for 2 days and then one more night in Vegas before we return to Florida.

I have the condo booked and the flights, what I need it tips on getting good prices on food and entertainment. We are not gamblers but love to go to shows. My hubby lives good food. Any help?

We are only renting a car for the last 3 days to go to the Grand Canyon and back. Any tips?

I am so out of my element. Usually, I plan, plan, plan.....this was so last minute. We booked our flights yesterday. HELP!!!

Hit the Las Vegas discussion group on Trip Advisor to quickly & easily get lots of help. They even have an itinerary section which can shortcut some of the learning curve & help you ask the best questions suiting your trip. Have a great time.

For the shows, try www.tix4tonight.com.

For the food, there are deals on groupon and restaurant.com. Check out the restaurant section on www.vegasmessageboard.com

Have you ever been to Vegas?

The Wynn buffet has GREAT food!!!! Expensive at $35pp, but worth it!!!! One of my favorite places to eat in Vegas!!!! Also, the dining room at Bright Angel Lodge at the Canyon has good food too... The dining room at El Tovar (also on the canyon rim) was VERY expensive for what we had IMO..... Also you need to have made reservations in advance to eat at El Tovar, it is a beautiful dining room... Go for breakfast as the room is better during the day, as at night it is VERY dark.....

Vons will deliver groceries.

Vegas is not warm this time of year either--everyone seems to think it is. Naturally it will be nicer than NB right now!

We got lots of comments from anybody who saw the video DD shot during our first drive up Las Vegas Boulevard after we arrived. The sight is really something to see & the video is a great way to remember our first taste of the place -- especially since it's someplace that reinvents itself so frequently and dramatically.

I know you're not going to have a car the entire visit, but if you do happen to have an opportunity, I'd highly recommend making a video like this one to capture the memories.

The Las Vegas message board mentioned above is another great source of information. Man, I wish I was planning a trip there -- or practially anywhere right now. Too darned cold here.

In case you didn't know, the drive from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon is loooooooooooooong. Don't drink anything because the places to go to the bathroom are very few and VERY far between. The scenery is lovely though.

That's true if going to the South Rim, which is where were last summer. It took us approx 6 hours for the drive from the South Rim to Vegas. Now, if you're going to the West Rim, the one run by the Indian Tribe who's name escapes me right now, that one is only about 3-4 hours I believe and not as nice IMO from the South Rim.........

For shows, I don't have much advice, but you should definitely see a Cirque (I've heard amazing things about LOVE, which features the music of the Beatles and is at the Mirage).

Food-- you're in Vegas, you have to try a buffet! Our personal favorite is Wicked Spoon at the Cosmopolitan. It's not cheap, but it's delicious! All of the food is individually portioned, so it's more sanitary than a regular buffet. The offerings are much more unique than a standard buffet-- my boyfriend tried pig's ear when we went!

Mon Ami Gabi is the best priced steakhouse on the strip-- it's a lovely little bistro-type restaurant at the Paris hotel. Steak was cooked terrificially. We only went for dinner, but I've heard the breakfast is amazing, too.

We found a little touch of Disney at the Palazzo-- part of their free carnival show featured a stilt walker exactly the same as D'Vine!

We are actually in Florida for the winter but brought warmer clothes forVegas knowing it would be cold.

We know the drive to the Grand Canyon is long. We plan to drive there then sleep there for 2 nights then back to Vegas.

Can't wait.

Hey, Sam. Happy New Year to you and Richard. Nice to 'see' you. I am not too frequent here either.

I will be there when you are. I get there afternoon the 27th and leave afternoon of 31st. I am there for a business conference. Would be nice to meet up again, if possible.

I always try to take in a Cirque show while there.

The buffet at the M is getting great reviews. Also the new Buffet at Ceasars looks very promising. Donny & Marie are at the Flamingo heard it is a good show. and don't forget the Fountains at the Belligio.
