I'm loving the suggestions. And agree with avoiding the end of the name being "o".
My top faves so far: Gimli, Pippin, Radaghast, Strider. What is your current girl GS named? Maybe consider something that would flow well with her name. I'm drawing a blank right now. I play Lord of the Rings Online (mmo- massive multi player online game) and have seen some really great names in my travels in game. But darn if I can't think of them now.

Oy, sorry, I forgot my present dog's name! I guess it would be nice to have complementary names!
My female, plush coat, red and black shepherd is named Tündi, pronounced Too-ndi. It means fairy or precious one in Hungarian, and when she was a little puppy, her fur was so full and fluffy, and it she had tufts that stood out by her ears that looked like fairy wings. She fit her name. So what fits? |

I like Gimli, but thing Gamgee would be cute. Then when you need a long name it can be Samwise Gamgee...

And I like Pippin for a dog's name. Though hopefully your dog will have more brains than the character. |

Kili!
Well, our 8 week old plush-coat German Shepherd is here, and after observation and personality assessment, the decision is made - his name is Kili (with his dark plush fur, he just wasn't a Gimli, which was a close second, though I still prefer Thorin!).
Kili is an adventurous little boy, throwing himself into all sorts of new situations in our home. Be it chasing after his big sister Shepherd, Tundi, as she plays with her toys, to trying to get past the claws of the cat for a taste of succulent cat fur, Kili is into everything. He acts all brave and strong, but looks for approval from the big sister as he attacks the squeaky toy. He fears nothing, though he probably should fear the cats! He is a goofy, fun loving little boy, and he so fits his name. Kili is also a smart pup, in spite of his lack of good sense. He has been here for one week, and already knows the commands for "come" and "sit", and is fully housebroken! Now he just needs to learn that sneaking up on his big sister or the cats while they are sleeping and jumping on top of them is not the smartest thing to do for a little puppy! ![]() Kili is going to be a big boy, and his paws are already as large and maybe even broader than our other Shepherd's. She will be in for a surprise when he is almost twice her size! But they love each other, not only sharing toys and bones, but even Tundi's kennel during the day (though he still looks at Tundi in amazement, as if he can't believe she is letting him in with her!). Please welcome Kili into the DIS family of puppies! ![]() ![]() ![]()

He's so cute!
My brother found a stray cat living outside the warehouse where he works. The cat grew on him so he eventually brought him home. He was (still is) a big furry mess. A long haired black cat that always looks unkempt no matter what you do to him. He named him Gimli. It's the perfect name. He's been part of the family for many, many years now. Good luck with your new baby! Enjoy all the love that is about to come your way! |
